For students entering fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computer science and data science, earning a degree is only part of preparing for the competitive job market. Knowing how to communicate their skills, build professional relationships and turn classroom knowledge into workplace experience can matter just as much.
UT San Antonio is building tomorrow's tech leaders.
With mentorship, professional development and industry engagement, the new @USAA Ascent Scholars Program is accelerating student success.

Could GLP-1 medications have implications beyond weight management and metabolic health? @uthealthsa researchers are examining whether these therapies may also offer insights into longevity and healthy aging. Report from @KENS5: bit.ly/4yqNVHk
The UT System Board of Regents has named 12 faculty members as recipients of the 2026 Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Awards, which recognize exceptional classroom performance and innovation. Each honoree was selected after a competitive, multi-stage review that examined the methods they use to engage students, evidence that those methods improve outcomes, and future strategies for sharing their approach with colleagues across the UT System. Students at UT institutions aren't just using AI. They're building with it. At @UTEP, finance students created an investment committee made entirely of AI agents. One agent analyzes earnings, another tracks markets, and a risk agent reviews the final call. Watch here: youtu.be/HNmckLJmpMM?si=9JO3…
🍰 vs 🥦 . . . How does the brain stop us acting on impulse? New research from @UTAustin found that one brain region "jams" the signals behind automatic behavior. 🧠 🫷Preliminary studies suggest the work could one day help predict, and treat, addictive and compulsive behavior. news.utexas.edu/2026/10/15/t…

Shovels ready 🏗️ 🎓 Yesterday we broke ground on a new building at the UT Education and Research Center at Laredo. Growth in students and programs has outpaced the current footprint — this new building adds classrooms, teaching labs and research space to grow South Texas’s health care workforce. Laredo is the only place in Texas where students can earn degrees from @UTHealthHouston, @UTSA, @UTRGV and @UTMBHealth, all under one roof.
Two UT institutions, one goal: preserving vision. 👁️🤖 @UTArlington and @UTSWMedCenter researchers are using AI to sift massive genomic datasets and identify key regulators of eye health — helping scientists focus on the most promising targets for future treatments. #acrosstheUTSystem uta.edu/news/news-releases/2…
With the rise of GLP-1 drugs, there’s growing interest surrounding peptides. For this project, @UTSA researchers hope to identify peptide catalysts for medicinal applications.
The next breakthrough could start at the molecular level. 🔬
Researchers from @UTSASciences and @SwRI are using computational modeling and lab testing to explore peptide catalysts and advance pharmaceutical research.

Big deserts can experience big floods. But hanks to @NASA funding, @UTEP engineers are combining satellite imagery and AI to build a realtime flood-mapping dashboard to help local crews respond after major storms. 🌧️ 🛰️ ⛏️ 🧡 UTEP has more: utep.edu/newsfeed/2026/octob…
Most tribal communities are located in rural areas, where roadway pavement, markings and other infrastructure are often in poor condition. Communities often know where problems exist but lack the resources and staff to collect information that provides a complete picture. In response, @UTArlington researchers are working with the Pawnee Nation, Pyramid Lake Tribe and Colorado River Indian Tribes — using drones, sensors, video and lidar, depending on each community’s preferences — to develop safety plans and tangible improvements at the local level. Algae have been found to have tremendous commercial applications, from pharmaceuticals to fuel to mining. More than half of the carbon dioxide removed naturally from the atmosphere is removed by algae. For 50 years, @UTAustin’s UTEX Culture Collection has kept 3,000 strains alive and available to researchers worldwide. news.utexas.edu/2026/10/12/n…
#PicksUp to this team of UTEP engineers who just earned a grant from @NASA to study flooding in El Paso. 💧 The two-year project will combine satellite imagery, Earth observation data and artificial intelligence to rapidly map areas affected by flooding after a storm. ⛈️
