Framing the challenge at #Innovation and the Fight Against Malaria #WHS2024 - Dr Michael @DekunleCharles
🔹Rising drug and insecticide resistance is compromising treatment effectiveness, while climate change is expanding malaria’s reach—potentially increasing transmission risk by 50% in parts of South America, sub-Saharan Africa, and China by 2050.
🔹R&D funding has dropped by 10% to its lowest level in 15 years, risking the development of new tools to address these challenges.
🔹Socioeconomic factors, such as poverty, limited access to healthcare, and inadequate infrastructure, intensify the risks associated with malaria transmission, disproportionally impacting the most vulnerable including children and pregnant women.
