Be careful what your circle teaches you to normalize. Hatefulness can start feeling like general conversation. Cruelty can become humor. Dishonesty can become loyalty. Disrespect can become “keeping it real.” And slowly, behavior that once made you uncomfortable becomes your new normal.
Letting go can feel scary, but staying can feel like you’ve lost your spark. Sometimes, the fear of starting over keeps us attached to things we’ve already outgrown. But you deserve a life that makes you feel alive, not one you’re simply trying to get through. Trust yourself enough to embrace the unknown.
From my latest book: You Can’t Please Everyone hayhs.com/ycpe_pp_pb_az
The people around you slowly shape what feels acceptable. That’s why I’m drawn to people who have a genuine intention to be kind, honest, and considerate. I don’t expect them to never get things wrong. Just that when they do, their instinct is to reflect, repair, and do better.
The world will offer you countless reasons to harden. People will disappoint you, kindness won’t always be returned, and honesty may cost you opportunities. Staying soft-hearted doesn’t mean staying naive. Learn discernment, set boundaries, and walk away when necessary. Just don’t let what happened to you take away what’s beautiful within you.
