This October, we mark 25 years since British Armed Forces first deployed to Afghanistan. As the Army’s national charity, we recognise their service, remember the sacrifice, and reflect on the lasting legacy of a campaign that affected thousands of military personnel, and their families, in the UK and overseas.
Mark was shot in the neck while serving in Afghanistan, leaving him with devastating injuries. Despite the predictions of his doctors, Mark was determined to overcome his injuries and learn to walk again.

Have questions before applying for a Veterans’ Foundation grant? Let’s talk.
Two members of our Grants team will be available on 5 November for pre-application calls, giving you a chance to ask questions before you apply. These calls cover all our grant programmes.
And a reminder: both our Standard and Salary Grants now accept applications on a rolling basis as part of a trial. There’s no fixed application deadline, so you can apply when you’re ready.
We aim to give you a decision within 12–16 weeks, but there may be short delays while we test and refine the approach.
To book your call, email [email protected].

NEW: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his willingness for a complete or partial ceasefire, including moratoriums on strikes against energy infrastructure or the Black Sea, but the Kremlin continues to reject a ceasefire.
Other Key Takeaways:
The Kremlin's current negotiating position on the war in Ukraine continues to include Moscow’s longstanding demand from before the full-scale invasion that NATO change its charter and roll back its membership to NATO’s former 1997 borders.
Ukraine’s long-range strike campaign is forcing Russia to relocate its data infrastructure and augment protection measures for data centers.
Russia launched one Kh-31P anti-radiation missile, three Kh-59 or Kh-69 cruise missiles, and 140 drones (including 70 jet-powered ones) against Ukraine overnight on October 25 to 26.
Ukrainian forces continued their long-range strike campaign against Russian industrial facilities and logistics infrastructure overnight on October 25 and 26.

I oppose the new Palestinian poppy concept. It is hijacking the symbol of remembrance.
The red poppy honours those who served and died in war. Remembrance should be about honouring the fallen, not changing its meaning.
What does the red poppy mean to you?
I have to disagree with @PeterBleksley if you seriously think our children should go and fight abroad for a Country that has demonised White British men, demonised our Flags, treated as all like second class citizens and put IMMIGRANTS before us you have lost your mind Peter.
‘I am utterly DISGUSTED by your rampant, pathetic cowardice.’
Former Metropolitan Police detective Peter Bleksley BLASTS @alexarmstrong after he suggested he wouldn’t fight for his country.

Private Percy Tolliday of the 11th Battalion, The Middlesex Regiment, has been laid to rest on the Somme alongside two unknown comrades, more than a century after their deaths in the First World War.
The men were recovered by our colleagues from our specialist Recovery Unit.
Dr Daniel Seaton, CWGC Commemorations Case Officer said: “The three casualties now laid to rest were recovered by our specialist Recovery Unit, not far away from where today’s ceremony has taken place. I am delighted that, following research conducted by ourselves and the JCCC, Private Tolliday has been identified, and remain hopeful that it may also be possible to identify the two Unknown Soldiers in the future. All three are now remembered with honour in the Commission’s Warlencourt British Cemetery”
