A programming contractor delivered a game milestone that was broken and full of problems, when the client asked for fixes, the contractor said he couldn’t do them because he didn’t understand what he had made. The client then discovered the milestone had been entirely vibe-coded Even worse, the contractor had put confidential game information into the AI tool to create it, which was also a breach of confidentiality. Video game lawyer Haley MacLean said the contractor didn’t get paid and had simply wasted the client’s time. “Just because you can order at a restaurant doesn’t mean you’re a chef.” MacLean says anti-AI clauses are increasingly becoming standard in game development contracts because of risks around confidentiality, copyright and ownership.

UK Games Expo, the UK’s biggest tabletop gaming convention, is banning AI-generated products, with a few exceptions. The new rules cover AI-made art, writing, games, RPGs, books, merchandise and crafts. Using AI for spell-checking, minor edits or accessibility is still allowed, as long as the actual creative work is done by humans. If exhibitors break the rules and refuse to remove the AI content, their stand can be shut down and they could be banned from future events.
