UK businesses beware!
Companies House wants all small businesses to start posting their profit and loss statements for the world to see.
When this goes ahead, not only can everyone see your finances in detail, they’ll see what you spend your money on.
If your business has figured out a great marketing strategy or an awesome tech stack it will be there to see.
If your business made a loss, maybe because you’ve been investing in growth you’ve had a bad year, everyone will see your financials.
If you’re a small startup and you’re trying to look bigger than you are to win your first serious client, they’ll know that their deal will be significant. Maybe they won’t do the deal or maybe they’ll use it as leverage.
If you top up your pension account, your whole team will see it.
This will also be a scammers dream. They can send an AI through the internet looking for ways to exploit this data.
When it goes ahead, it will be another blow to UK entrepreneurship. Why start a business in the UK and have your detailed financials on show to the world?
Don’t believe it? Here’s the link. Please share this.

As a life long liberal, it's been so fascinating reading X today.
It feels like liberals/left leaning people refuse to learn the lesson history keeps teaching.
Everyone on the right is not racist. not a bigot. not a sexist. not a moron. not a threat to democracy.
This kind of hyperbolic vitriol has fueled an influx of self obsessed egotists who think the world revolves around them and their unique views on the world and forced some very fringe, very extreme views that affect 0.0001% of people into the mainstream.
Most people want to leave those people alone in peace, want them to be happy - they just dont want 99% of the population to have to bend to the will of 1%.
There's a certain idealogical insanity that has overtaken the left (now commonly known as 'woke') and I've been guilty in the past of forcing these views on others too.
Then Brexit happened.
And I learned that calling everyone else racist because they had legitimate concerns - wasn't healthy, kind, or anything that liberals say they care for.
So instead, I listened. Talked to my right leaning friends.
Turns out - this freedom of speech thing vs name calling, insulting and bullying behaviour of shutting down people under the cloak of 'kindness' had negatively impacted the very beliefs I held up.
This is America's Brexit.
The (very) popular vote has spoken.
It's time for the left to learn from their mistakes.
People (like me) are looking for credible liberal leaders to support once again.
Any credible liberal leader would beat Trump in a landslide.
Now they have an opportunity to reset the party, bring it back to the centre - and attract sane people with sane policies once again.
In the meantime, stop the meltdown.
History proves that the world isn't more dangerous under Trump. Those narratives worked last time - but peace under his tenure proves that it wasn't true.
The right thing to do for the left? Give him a chance - rebuild the party, come back to the centre, fire the extremists - and represent sane centrists once again.
Congratulations to Trump - you deserved to win, I hope you prove many of us wrong. ❤️

A client came to me with an 8/10 video that was underperforming. Badly.
"What do we do with this, Callum?"
I immediately pulled up the data to understand what's going on.
I like to work methodically through the key health metrics of a video.
Retention, Click-Through and Impressions.
The retention was above average, at ~58% in the first 2 days. Solid.
Pulled up CTR and immediately recognised it as being the issue.
Then Impressions. It was below baseline, but nothing too bad.
Low CTR with decent impressions = packaging change.
Instead of tweaking the thumbnail, we binned it and started again.
We went back to the value proposition for the viewer and worked from that, on how we could promise value and create a curiosity gap.
We tied the thumbnail and the title together, I like to think of it as a 1-2 punch.
The thumbnail gets you interested, the title seals the deal.
I wish I could show you the thumbnail because it was a masterpiece of nailing the value prop.
But, the results speak for themselves.
This job comes down to understanding the viewer and what they care about.
The rest is just tactics.

EXCITING NEWS: A new YouTube Studio update enables Creators to analyze their retention charts by audience segments!
When I checked the YouTube dashboard, I discovered an initial roll-out that lets creators break down their retention charts by the following segments:
- Subscribers and non-subscribers
- New and returning viewers
- Organic and paid traffic
This improvement is significant and a step forward for those who aim to understand which parts of their content appeal to different types of audiences.
If you're one of the lucky few with this feature already, head to one of your videos, scroll down to the retention chart and click on the “see more” button to access this new update.
Why do I believe this update is so massive:
1. It allows us to learn more about the various preferences of audiences who watch our videos.
2. We can begin to better optimize our content to reach audiences who we haven’t reached before this update.
3. It provides us with more transparency regarding the fact that a single retention chart isn’t an accurate representation of who we are reaching.
4. It helps those who use the promotions tab to learn more about their organic viewership without having the retention charts messed up by paid traffic.
You can definitely expect a more comprehensive breakdown on YouTube soon because retention has been my bread and butter for the past few years.

I've built a playbook for growing YouTube channels...
We signed two large channels last Q4 to our consulting agency.
One is up 350% in monthly views, the other is up 500%.
So f*ck it... here's a super quick summary of our playbook. It's surprisingly simple. 🧵
Foundation phase
1. Make sure correct team members are in place - Hire talent if needed or train existing team/creator.
2. Start researching the niche, identifying outlier ideas.
3. Crunch data on client's channel, see if there's anything to build upon. Any previous outlier ideas.
4. Establish ''vision'' for editing style and thumbnail style + overall channel tone.
Experimentation phase
5. Using insights from research, brainstorm 100+ ideas, pick 5 to try out. Test out new thumbnail and editing changes.
6. Observe results, learn more about channel and audience. Win or learn.
Growth Phase
7. Double down on 1-3 buckets that are working and brainstorm more.
8. Improve every part of the content (Scripting, Editing, Audio, Thumbnails, Titles) with each upload.
9. Establish feedback loop through form of a monthly learnings and data report
10. Grow into the future, work on all ideas together, meet monthly to reflect on progress and steer the ship!
Obviously in practice there's a lot more to it... but it's all just simple steps, but the right steps.
There's no silver bullet.
This is just hard work and obsession from my team and the amazing clients we work with!
I don't have anything to sell you right now, so follow @PaddyG96
I'll also pick someone who likes and RTs and help them apply this playbook 1-on-1.

MY FIRST X VIDEO MADE OVER $250,000! 😲
But it’s a bit of a facade. Advertisers saw the attention it was getting and bought ads on my video (I think) and thus my revenue per view is prob higher than what you’d experience

Thumbnails are super important on YouTube.
Let's dig into why.
This video went from 300,000 views to 1.1m views after changing the thumbnail.
But this wasn’t a random change, it was part of our A/B testing system.
Here's why we do it and why you should consider doing it too.
YouTube is a video platform built around serving people videos it thinks they’d like to watch.
But viewers have to click on videos to watch them, which means if you can’t get someone to click on the video, they won’t see the content.
The point of titles and thumbnails is to “package” the content in the most intriguing way possible so that you can hook people into watching your video.
But this is really hard to do.
Your packaging has to be intriguing enough and your video good enough that the algorithm shows it over other videos also on the platform about the same topic.
We rushed to get this video out and we hadn’t taken a specific picture for the thumbnail. Let’s be honest, it’s a basic af thumbnail (see below).
Ideally, you would always make the thumbnail first, but even with my team of 13 we sometimes struggle to do this.
The video did ok initially, but a few months later we thought we would switch it up.
We ran an A/B test on tubebuddy at the time, and the CTR (click-through rate) and AVD (average viewer duration) were both higher with the new thumbnail, so we changed it.
The views increased, but we still felt like it could be a better thumbnail.
We took inspiration from @CharismaOn and made a simple thumbnail with a picture of me and some text highlighting an interesting part of the video.
At this point, we’d started using thumbnailtest.com as it is much easier to use, much more up to date, and has way more customisation.
We ran a test and the newest one came out on top again.
So we switched it up again. We tried to bring the content of the video to life by highlighting a particular point.
Then this happened.
The video took off and is still growing today.
Remember, the content itself hasn’t changed. But more people are choosing to click on the video because of the thumbnail, which means it’ll be pushed to even more people.
If you have both the time and money, I highly recommend A/B testing both titles and thumbnails.
One of the best tools to do that is thumbnailtest.com and we’ve become friends with @RoxCodes who built it and he’s offering 20% off for anyone who signs up through our link - go.aliabdaal.com/thumbnailte….
(For context, this is an affiliate link but it’s such a good product and completely changed how we analyse and tweak our videos)
