Humbled by another marathon 🙇🏽♂️
I could write about how I’m disappointed in my time or the fact that cramping yet again wrecked me at the finish but perspective is everything…
At the end of July, I had a severe back injury and could barely stand let alone walk without excruciating pain. It took me a month and a half to recover + 3 more weeks to get back up to running speed. That left a month until the marathon, so the fact I even made it to the starting line was a blessing. Finishing even more so.
Even when I dealt with my issues on the course, it never felt overwhelming to the point of giving up. It was just another hurdle to overcome. Like when my headphones mysteriously disconnected from my phone around the Barclay’s Center and would not reconnect no matter what. I really was looking forward to the playlist I had created! But on we go. Or when the cramping locked me up in the Bronx and people just kept giving me items, helped me stretch, advice, etc. This is my 5th marathon but I am always impressed by the generosity of strangers in such a moment.
Anyway, I am going to take a long break to reevaluate the place running has in my life. Personally, I enjoy the half marathon distance and even 10-milers the most of all races. I also love going to the gym and lifting weights so much more than I did in the past that it’s starting to take up just as much time as running. I also would love to solve this cramping issue because it’s never my energy or being winded that gets me at the end. It’s my body painfully locking up and I physically can’t move and it’s been that way since a little kid playing sports, no matter what I use or do to prevent it. Solving that problem is a part of my journey…But thank you New York for allowing me to live a dream I had dreamt - running in the @nycmarathon

I’m glad that I had to re-adjust my marathon goals to fit the new course I’ll be running. It’s forced me to keep longevity in the forefront of my mind. I was training for different terrain than what I’m gonna race so idk if I’ll PR but I do know I’m gonna finish and somebody told me I’m never getting another first marathon again so I need to enjoy myself and take it all in.
I’m not gonna go full out party pace but I already picked out my next race where Im gonna PR for certain so I’m okay with loosening my expectations just for this first time. I do want to take it all in. It’s been a journey to say the least. I understand now why they say the real marathon is the training and race day is just a celebration.
I love fine dining so much I miss sitting down at a table with with white table cloth! Outermost utensils first, fork at 4 o’clock, wine glass by stem, all the things! I can’t wait I love my bougie eating hobby that was not easy to sacrifice ! Omg it’s solo date seasonnnn ! TO FREEDOM! 🤪
OMG it’s November 1st !!! Hello!!? Do yall remember when I accomplished the 90 days of no eating out or ordering delivery food and then I said actually Ima go for 6 months??? TODAY IS 6 MONTHS OF NO EATING OUT I JUST REALIZED I MADE IT!!!!!
OMG I miss my solo dinner dates so much!!! I wish I realized this morning so I could’ve gone some where to eat today!!!!! I can’t wait to get dressed up and go out to a nice restaurant and sit at the bar and listen to music and do my little happy dance when the food is good. Idek where to start!!!!! So excited.
And I know I’m growing in my faith bc I pray less for mercy and more for courage. I’ve been in my wrestling in Gethsemane era but I know I’m ready now. I was not waiting on God, God was waiting on me. Grateful for his patience I am a stubborn ole thing I tell ya.
I really went full out Joshua marching around the walls of Jericho 7 times and Jacob wrestling with the divine being talmbout “I will not let you go until you bless me” like God knows I am an aggressive prayer. Some Christians harp on the 21 days of the Daniel fast but actually in proper biblical context there was nothing special about the 21 days it just so happened to be 21 days until God moved. So I took inspiration from Daniels heart posture to remove deadlines and just kept going until I get ALL THE WAY where I’m going not just see what I get in a certain amount of time.

This aint just one year in the making. I have been waiting *my entire life* for the days I’m about to walk in. Y’all have no idea how special what you just witnessed this year was but in about another year you will understand. It’s all going to make sense soon.
