Ten years after Paris, climate is at the centre of cultural programming. But can art still challenge extractive power, or has it settled for optics?

Superb piece by @fionaharvey on how narrow conventional #economics is at the root of our failure adequately to tackle the climate crisis. The #Stern report convincingly exploded it 20 years ago, but how governments still follow the old discredited ways.

Interesting who “loses out” in the manoeuvre around Labour commitment to no tax rises on “working people”. Landlords, banks, gambling all facing increases. Three groups public have little sympathy for…

Battery electric vehicles just overtook pure petrol cars in the EU for the first quarter on record.
In Q3-2026, over a quarter (27%) of new vehicle registrations were BEVs. Petrol's share dropped below 20% for the first time.

After a terrible flood, you don't say it's too expensive to build new flood defences.
Britain’s vulnerability to gas cost all of us £40bn in the last energy crisis and we're facing another. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme costs just 1% of that - and is key to getting off gas.
“Malevolent leaders” thousands of miles away with a grip on our energy bills. Perfect Halloween material, if only it were made up.
Tomorrow’s Budget decides the future of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), the government grant that knocks thousands off the cost of a heat pump. The BUS is one of the best-value industrial policies Britain has, and the clearest way to loosen that grip.
In the @theipaper this morning, @g__j pointed to China’s boom in EV’s. In 2010, the government there gave people a hefty discount on electric cars and built the chargers to match. Early adopters drove costs down, and China now leads the world in EVs and batteries.
The BUS is doing the same for heating. Before it, around 200,000 UK homes had a heat pump. Now it’s over 600,000. Heat pumps used to be for posh renovations. Now they’re going into ordinary homes, and data from every Octopus heat pump shows heating bills 20 to 40% lower than gas. That’s the BUS delivering exactly what it promised, making smarter, cleaner, (and generally better) energy tech cheaper for everyone.
Every heat pump fitted makes the next one cheaper. And every home off gas is one less Putin can squeeze. The scariest thing this week would be stopping now.

Peasants, rise up! In the UK, at least. And fill in this consultation about your rights to know who owns the land, because otherwise you will not be allowed to know, ever.

We’ve given the green light to two major solar projects ☀️
Great North Road & Frodsham could together power the equivalent of around 440,000 homes, boosting homegrown clean energy and our energy security.

Left: President Trump insults Norway calling it a sh*thouse country
Right: Visit Norway, the tourism board, trolls President Trump, displaying some of their best toilets on their Instagram 😅
My view:
Trump chose to insult Norway. Visit Norway answered with humour, confidence and a showcase of its most beautiful loos.
That’s how you turn an insult into an invitation. Congratulations to Norway for responding with such grace - and giving us another reason to visit.
I've never been to Norway, but this is just another reason to visit 😁

Funny how it is alright to work for the BBC & do outside commentary as long as you are writing right-wing piss for the Daily Mail. Step forward Justin Webb telling us how defeat for Trump is somehow bad news for the Democrats.

Bloody hell
Russia is preparing for war in Europe, and they continue to be issued visas.
Spanish police have arrested a former Russian soldier after discovering an illegal weapons operation in Catalonia, near the French border.
Investigators uncovered a concealed workshop inside a rented warehouse in Figueres, approximately 25 kilometers from France. The facility contained 644 firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, silencers and weapons components.
The seized arsenal is estimated to be worth €5 million.

I really think everyone needs to pay attention to this cordinated campaign to delegimatize Muslim Americans - not just as citizens but as humans.
These increasingly hysterical attacks are a prelude to Republicans bringing us to a very, very dark place after the election.

This will be one of those changes that we look back on and wonder why on earth we didn’t do this long, long ago.
Well done @SadiqKhan for pushing this through.
