This is a true story and relates to a post about ex Armed Forces and housing. Some of us have also served in the armed forces. I am one of 125 MoD caretakers across the UK and NI. We work at Army Reserve and UOTC centres. All of us have to live in tied accommodation that comes as part of our employment. The 125 of us will be made redundant on the 31st of March 2027. This is not a personal choice; we are part of the MoD's 10% cost-saving cuts. We are the lowest paid in the MoD; we earn less per annum than a 17-and-a-half-year-old in basic training in the Army. Some of us have served for decades. Yet we are committed and steadfast in maintaining the operational security and effectiveness of the Reserves Centres that we work at and in some cases manage. When we are made redundant, our tied accommodation must be emptied and ready to hand over by the 31st of March. We and our families are not entitled to be rehomed. Again, this is not our choice; this action is being forced on us after years and decades of dedicated service to the MoD, the Army, and the our Country. This is a life-changing event for us all. There is a lack of information, and as each week counts down to March, the stress on us all and our families increases. Yet, here in the UK, we have not only non-taxpayers but also people who are in our country illegally being given new priority housing. Nobody is interested in our story or wants to help, and the media, with ethe exception of (The Scotsman) either do not want to report on or publish our story, or the information they are relating to is incorrect. This is a true story and relates to UK tax paying nationals. Some of us have also served in the armed forces, and at least one of us is currently on Operational Tour, and will not be back in the UK by March 31st. 🤬🤬🤬

During a police chase in the UK a passing van driver stopped to help and told a pursuing armed officer to get in the back of his van. That was quite exhilarating. What a story for his mates down the pub. Meanwhile his wife is waiting at home upset and he’s trying to explain like “I swear…i had to let a cop in my van and we had to chase down a runner.”

Today AWS servers went down and so did the government One Login digital ID system Millions of people were suddenly locked out of vital services just because all authentication now runs through one central system hosted on a single commercial cloud. Could there be a clearer warning This is not a theoretical risk. This is what happens when all access to government services depends on a single provider and a single platform. One outage and the whole country grinds to a halt If AWS can crash and take out government logins nationwide. What happens during a cyberattack? What happens in a crisis? What happens when there is just a technical glitch? We are being told to put our trust our business our legal status and our most sensitive personal information into one digital basket Today proves just how fragile and risky that model is. Digital ID is not about convenience or security. It is about centralising risk and making everyone more vulnerable to outages attacks and bureaucratic mistakes. It only takes one outage to lock the country out. #NoToDigitalID

If you aren't worried about Labour introducing Digital ID, imagine that power in the hands of your worst nightmare government... Now are you worried?

Please take your vacation and leave time. Work will be there when you return. Trust me it isn’t worth you hitting burnout, making yourself sick, or landing in the hospital. As a chronic offender and someone who has hit all three previously I know it’s hard to step away, do it anyway, you’ll be glad you did once the anxiety and stress wear off.

Our paper the "Evolution of Working from Home" just published pubs.aeaweb.org/doi/pdfplus/… overviewing the latest WFH data, trends, and research. Summary points: 1) WFH levels dropped in 2020-2022, then stabilized in 2023 2) Self-employed and gig workers are 3x more likely to be fully remote than salary workers (if you are your own boss you WFH a lot more) 3) Huge variation by industry, with IT having 5x WFH level of food service 4) WFH rises with density, and is 2x higher in cities than rural areas 5) WFH levels peak for folks in their 30s and early 40s (kids at home), those in their 20s have lower levels (mentoring, socializing and small living spaces) 6) Similar WFH levels by gender pre, during and post-pandemic 7) Much higher levels of WFH for graduates with kids under 14 at home 8) Productivity impact of hybrid WFH about zero. Productivity impact of fully-remote varied, dependent on how well managed this is. 9) Future will see rising levels of fully remote (the Nike Swoosh).

Including documentation as part of the definition of done ensures important information is not forgotten. It can save a remote team from serious trouble, in case critical people are unavailable, or leave the company.
