APXP Gem: Finding the Hidden Gem - What Coaches Really Look For in Practice w/ Coach Javonie Small
In this visit from Illinois Coach Small, he talks about how, despite many programs and track clubs, few athletes show this type of dedication he saw on a Saturday in the heat—grinding on the hill and doing drills without complaint. He emphasized that coaches aren’t just looking for the superstar; they’re searching for that hidden gem who pushes through regardless of circumstances, whether coming back from injury or vacation. We watch how you respond to unorthodox moments, because your meet times already tell us what you can do—it’s your training attitude that reveals your true potential.

#TBT to the 2021 AAU Junior Olympics.
College coaches ask how a RB got into shot put and discus. Thank you Coach Wayne Edwards — “The GOAT” — who taught me to use my speed, strength, power and explosiveness in “Field & Track.”
At 12, I became AAU National Champion in both Shot Put and Discus — and my little brother, Jaxon became a Junior Olympics All-American in Turbo Javelin. 🏈🥇
