BTW if anyone wants to pitch in re: the Wizard's backstory (or any of theirs in fact), I would be delighted, I only have very vague ideas. I certainly do wonder why the Wizard worries about coming across as 'too materialistic'. 👀

Sidenote: I've always considered it a source of profound horror when things that have been wrecked & torn apart beyond recognition continue to move, unfazed. Undead that walk on stumps of limbs, dismembered insects that still crawl, that kind of thing. That's what I see here, too
