🚨STAY SAFE OUT THERE PEOPLE.
A warning for anyone traveling to London, especially women traveling alone. Those little bike taxis with the lights and music? Here’s how my experience went last night.
I went to see Phantom of the Opera, but I wasn’t feeling well and ended up leaving early. I just wanted to get back to my hotel, so I took one of the bike taxis.
What looked like a fun little ride turned into a situation that left me very shaken up.
When it was time to drop me off, he pulled away from my hotel and took me over to a secluded area instead. I was alone, not feeling well, and now away from where I was supposed to be.
They kept wanting me to hand over my phone so they could take pictures of me. I said no. Then came the pressure to pay with my physical card. I told them I would pay cash, and they kept arguing with me.
And suddenly, what started as one man became THREE men involved in the situation while I was by myself.
The firmer I got, the more aggressive they became. But I held my own. I raised my voice deliberately because I wanted to draw attention and cause a scene. I wasn’t going to quietly let them pressure me. I told them loudly, “I SAID NO!”
They did not get my phone or my card. I handled myself, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t scared. Being alone at night in another country, somewhere secluded, with three men escalating the situation was frightening.
When I got back to my hotel and explained what happened, the staff told me this is very common. They said people can be charged astronomical amounts, £400 and up, for a short ride. A taxi driver I spoke with afterward told me it sounded like I got off easy.
Well, it certainly didn’t FEEL easy.
I’m sharing because I had no idea, and maybe someone reading this doesn’t either. Please be careful about these bike taxis. After this experience, I’d ask my hotel to arrange a taxi.
This trip has had so many beautiful moments, but last night rattled me. I’m safe, and I’m grateful for that. But this mama is ready to get home to her husband and boys. 🤍

Remember when khan said he wanted to cap minicab numbers in London but said he couldn't because the tories wouldn't allow it? Labour in charge now and no mention of it, they did it New York because of pollution and congestion..

@TfLTPH how can you possibly know who is working illegally on your patch? Just seen another @WolvesCouncil licensed minicab brazenly working illegally on London’s Brompton Rd with passengers onboard.
When are you going to put a stop to this? @TfL @Heidi_Labour @TheLTDA @transportgovuk @BTP @SadiqKhan @The_LCDC @LondonAssembly @EllyBakerAM @annelongfield @policylaila @metpoliceuk @Councillorsuzie @KeithPrinceAM

Maybe just a coincidence but Justice Birt was a barrister for Brick Court Chambers who just by chance happened to defend Uber against TFL when their licence was suspended in 2020.

There is a major VIP event at the British Museum tonight. PHV will not be allowed to stop or pick up customers in the immediate area, so we are asking for the support of London Taxis.
Taxi Marshals in attendance 22:00-02:00 and
and will keep you updated via telegram.

It seems @forestbike_uk are deliberately positioning their bikes on the New Burlington Street ‘Taxi Rank’! I thought this had been stopped via warnings to the companies involved @CityWestminster?
@The_LCDC @UnitedCabbies @TheLTDA
Obviously @forestbike_uk don’t care about rules?

@TfL, you’ve completely lost control of this industry. I’ve just seen another one of your @WolvesCouncil PHV partners working on the apps in Camberwell, SE5, tonight. There are serious public safety concerns regarding minicabs operating across borders.

Please make it easier to drop off wheelchair users at King’s Cross and St Pancras stations.
The designated bays on the St Pancras side are almost always occupied by minicabs. On the King’s Cross side, the official drop-off area has been halved in size, and what remains is frequently taken up by parked cars.
As a result there is often no safe kerb access, making the area hostile and inaccessible for disabled people.
I urge you to address this urgently so that wheelchair users can be dropped off safely and with dignity.

🚨 THE STAGGERING DAMAGE LABOUR INFLICTED ON GREAT BRITAIN IN JUST SEVEN DAYS!
I need every taxpayer to look at the absolute trail of destruction Burnham and his cabinet left behind over the past week alone.
While working families struggle to pay their bills, the Westminster establishment has been busy dismantling our country piece by piece:
*The Ministry of Justice paused tougher life sentences for child rapists just to save 350 prison beds, right after releasing hundreds of convicted criminals onto our streets.
*Burnham openly floated a second Brexit referendum on television and confirmed that dragging Great Britain back into the European Union is firmly on the table.
*Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy backed a disgraceful plan to force every household to pay a mandatory BBC tax on their broadband bills even if they do not own a television.
*Nature Minister Jenny Riddell Carpenter publicly smeared traditional British country pubs, pints of ale, and pet black labradors as a dangerous far right fantasy.
*Shabana Mahmood approved blowing 250 million pounds to dump a massive migrant compound into the tiny Oxfordshire village of Piddington while British veterans sleep rough.
*Justice Minister Jake Richards went on BBC Question Time and deliberately refused to commit to stopping the small boats until the studio audience groaned in absolute disgust.
These out of touch socialists are treating our nation like a radical ideological playground and bleeding the domestic working class dry to pay for it!
I am sick to death of watching arrogant politicians destroy the country my grandparents built!!
Retweet this immediately to expose the disastrous reality of this government to every single voter before they do any more damage. 🇬🇧🔥

.@willnorman is still telling untruths about cycle safety and his bike lanes. He claims they have multiplied 5 times and are safer. He’s spent 1.5 billion and there are far more serious injuries. His is a disastrous policy designed to give a false sense of safety. The 2026 figure for only 5 months.

Why did you license and promote these endlessly then?
Since 2017 you’ve ‘known’ they leave pavements inaccessible meaning people can’t walk easily, Aren’t you the walking commissioner?
Are you also going to acknowledge the horrific way users break the law when riding them?
Yesterday, I repeated my view that e-bike hire is a mess & doesn't work for anyone.
Since 2017, we've been asking for regulatory powers. This government has listened & is changing the law.
@LondonAssembly I talked about changes new powers will bring.
