I volunteer at #Oxfam & a man came in today to donate toys and children's books precisely because he had read this @caitlinmoran @thetimes article. Please do take your clean, usable, saleable items to a charity shop before #Christmas rather than waiting until afterwards 😊

Lucy Weldon retweeted
Male violence against women and girls is the single most common human rights violation in the world. Supposedly egalitarian Western regimes reveal how much they truly value women's rights by their feeble response to an Afghan regime actively encouraging and enabling rape.
Taliban have invalidated all divorces granted under previous Afghan government, forcing divorced child brides to return to their former husbands. Thousands of young women, some of whom married as children, are now legally bound to return to adult husbands they had been freed from. The new rule is being widely condemned as a grotesque violation of women’s rights, trapping many in abusive marriages.

Let there be peace Let tears evaporate to form clouds, cleanse themselves And fall into reservoirs of drinking water. Let harsh memories burst into fireworks that melt In the dark pupils of a child’s eyes

“Today in Kabul, a female cat has more freedoms than a woman.” Thank you, Meryl Streep, for standing in solidarity with the women and girls of Afghanistan. This is exactly what we need—global solidarity. We need women, especially those with influence and platforms, to speak up. Be a friend. Be an ally. The fight against gender apartheid and inequality isn’t just ours; it’s everyone’s. If the world normalises the Taliban’s abhorrent treatment of women in Afghanistan, what’s to stop it from happening to women elsewhere?

Sometimes I just get a chance to take a nice photo. Even in genteel decay books have something about them.

Today makes three years since the fall of Afghanistan and the Taliban’s return. That’s 1063 days since girls were banned from school. And 969 days since they closed universities to women. And nobody cares.

We need more of this. The media must stop treating men’s fatal violence against women as normal and inevitable.

Really chuffed to read about all the good that has come out of the shocking decimation of Spellow Hub library during the riots. Thanks to authors et al who pledged support in my #ReadingNotRioting campaign & thanks to @GuardianBooks for covering.

As today marks the grim third anniversary since Taliban seized power in kabul, ending the hopes of so many girls and women, 19 of the previous government’s ambassadors stayed in post. With no money to pay bills some have had their power switched off thetimes.com/article/60d5c76…

i think what we've discovered tonight is that Farage has been lying. britain doesn't actually agree with him. he doesn't 'have a point'. could we stop putting him on the tv now? since he basically only represents a fringe that have fallen for his lies.
