Nothing makes you feel older than a student wearing throwback band t-shirts of bands you used to listen to in college/grad school. Title Fight hasn't released a studio album since 2015 🙃

This semester, I get to try something that's been a goal of mine since before I started my faculty position: teach a college course that is entirely open-source. I'll be teaching Applied Bioinformatics I using this repo: github.com/wheelern/BIOL343

The ability to do this relies on some unique resources and capacities at @UWEauClaire - an HPC built for teaching, integrations that enable conda/IPython kernels housed on the HPC and used in VS Code, and highly supportive colleagues.

P.S. Technically it's not "open source" by the classic definition - there is a license associated with the repo that sets some limitations. Regardless, it can be viewed publicly and used freely for education.

The UWEC biology department is hiring a TT assistant professor in neurobiology. If you're excited about undergraduate education in an environment that highly values research, check us out! Worm people especially encouraged to apply. uwec.edu/job-postings/21145

Very grateful to find out that @NIAIDFunding is supporting our R15 proposal - Molecular Determinants and Behavioral Fingerprints of Schistosome Miracidia Host-Seeking. This grant is a result of bright, hardworking undergraduates, who generated 100% of the preliminary data.

(I've spent more on data storage than all cold storage solutions combined...and I hope it's worth it.)
