This is from the Mendenhall River Floods in Alaska. This happened over a span of six hours. 😧 Can you imagine watching that happen to your home knowing there’s nothing that can save it?

Another exciting paper just out (I'm so behind!): asessing past and future eruptions and impacts from the lesser known Bolaven Volcanic Field in Laos. Congrats to @AndreaVerolino and team: Kerry Sieh, Dayana Schonwalder-Angel, Vanpheng Sihavong and Oh Jee Hon.
⚓️New paper alert⚓️: Are there any volcanoes in Laos? Apparently yes...the Bolaven Volcanic Field is much younger than previously thought, with potential of huge economic impact in case of eruption. Paper accessible here👇: rdcu.be/cOcxC @EOS_SG @VolcanoRisk

Exciting day! Here’s our newly published paper. We believe that our proposed framework can address and formulate an exposure-informed risk management strategy in megacities by triggering discussions between scientific community and policymakers for a more resilient future.
Average annual losses as a result of evolving seismic exposure could double in Jakarta and Metro Manila by 2030, and increase by more than 50% in Istanbul. @GizemMestav nature.com/articles/s43247-0…

Interested in PDC hazards and dynamics? Check out the shiny new paper that just came out with @VolcanoRisk. We looked at the impacts of PDC damage in the 2010 Merapi and 2018 Fuego eruptions and used that to figure out what was happening during the PDC. doi.org/10.1016/j.jvolgeores…
