£10 billion of unusable PPE to be binned That’s enough to pay for 4-5 years of full pay restoration for ‘junior doctors’ in the NHS. @VictoriaAtkins - you may need to reflect on this
Latest on the massive PPE stockpile that was never used & will likely now be binned. Value of the inventory written down by £9.9 BILLION... as items either unusable, or were bought at huge inflated prices. (from NAO)

'We haven't got enough money to spend £2 billion a year paying doctors, but we can find £8 billion a year to cut a tax that's only paid by the richest 4%.' @BenKentish points out the flaw in the government's claim that the UK 'can't afford' a pay rise for junior doctors.

'They are talking about a pay rise this is in reality a brutal pay cut' The government has announced pay deals for 2.5 million public sector workers as inflation hits salaries. Dr Enna Runswick from the British Medical Association spoke to #BBCBreakfast bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-6…

Today’s pay cut will come as a bitter blow for doctors across England, as it marks complete failure to recognise their sacrifices during the pandemic. We will fight for the full restoration of pay lost since 2008. Comment from @DrPhilBanfield bma.org.uk/bma-media-centre/…

And so we are stuck in this cycle. And every wave drags down our education system, drags down our health system, drags a few more people out of the work force, disrupts a lot of people's lives. How is this sustainable? 11/17

Centuries ago this was known as 'faffling' - used to mean uttering incoherent sounds whilst achieving nothing, or to describe a sail that flaps uselessly in the wind.

A brief reminder that to 'spuddle' (17th century) is to work feebly and ineffectively, because your mind is either somewhere else, or hasn't yet shifted into gear.

Are you a final year medic who has been told there will be no shadowing for FY1? Or that shadowing will only be voluntary and unpaid (no mandatory shadowing)? Please send me a copy of that email.

I had a meeting with @QAHospitalNews regarding 24/7 food provisions. I was stunned with all their plans that they have in store and how evident it was to see how much they care for their staff. I was beaming with pride! Thank you for all that you do! 👏🏽 #NoHungryNHSStaff

If you're a BMA member you will soon be receiving a voting pack. We have seen a significant drop in real terms income in combination with escalating cost of living. I’ll be using my votes to support candidates pushing for pay restoration.

Appreciate people are calling for more FY1 jobs, but let’s be real - what would we even DO with the extra FYs other than improve patient safety and doctor wellbeing by running a robustly-staffed service with more time for professional development and a greater buffer for illness?
