Literally, "it was OK until Jews did it."
Michael Walzer published “Just and Unjust Wars,” an attempt to delineate the rights and wrongs of warfare in both its causes and its conduct, in 1977. In the nearly 50 years since, no other book on the subject has matched its influence. The precepts are not complicated: it is just to defend your country from an invasion and it is unjust to invade a country that has not attacked you—although Walzer does allow for exceptions, mostly for humanitarian causes. It is just to assume certain risks to avoid civilian casualties and it is unjust to bomb towns indiscriminately to compel an enemy to surrender. The justice of going to war—what philosophers call jus ad bellum—is separate from jus in bello, the justice of how a war is fought.
The war in Gaza has made Walzer rethink one of the book’s fundamental principles. “The wall between jus ad bellum and jus in bello, which had sustained his theory for almost half a century, was no longer sturdy,” Jordi Graupera writes. As Walzer said to him, “There is a sense in which the carnage of Gaza, the ongoing carnage, simply made the war unjust.” Read about why a philosopher of war is now reconsidering his seminal work: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/T7…

Imagine Saddam in the midst of an increasingly powerful (militarily) and belligerent Iran. If he wasn’t pursuing WMDs then, he sure as hell would be now.

He was. He was being lied to by his own nuclear program.

Mine: David Samuels’ article in County Highway, “The White Man In the Hoodie,” loosely about a Bob Dylan show he saw in Nashville this year, functions as an obit, and I suspect the author knows that. splicetoday.com/pop-culture/…

His signature legislation as president was ObamaCare. The biggest healthcare bill ever. We were told that he solved this. What is he even talking about?

Regarding Russian conscripts, this is not the case. The overwhelming percentage of Russian forces fighting in this war are men well over 30 who accepted service contracts for money. They were not conscripted, or mobilized. For more on this topic: warontherocks.com/a-return-t…

The endless slaughter of Ukrainian and Russians must stop.
We should some sympathy for the poor Russian conscripts too. Those kids have no choice but to fight and die in drone strikes.

Translation of lyrics according to grok:
If I confront you in the afternoon,
By evening, I will teach you a lesson.
Yes, you will suffer and cry in seething,
You will scream like a demon.
After all, you are not Arabs,
Let the enemies die of seething.
We are the ones who rule this land,
We do not wait for anyone else.
We gather in whichever part we want,
We will dance Dhaanto and Saar.
Let me make clear who I am.
We impose taxes on our enemies.
We punish them and fill them with resentment.
We subjugate and humiliate them.
A muslim who wants to conquer with violence and views the US as the enemy.. is anyone shocked?
It's the same pretty much everywhere with rent controls. A story from Berlin:
True in Spain too. Every landlord in Madrid and Barcelona screens the renters now. This is an obvious consequence of rent control. The most vulnerable, ostensible protected by the legislation, are in fact excluded from the rental market: if you cannot be evicted for non payment, then you are too risky a renter.

An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.

The trouble with the "it's just a joke" line is that Obama IS a snob. People think they know that. He shouldn't emphasize that side of himself. Didn't he used to be careful not to?

3/ Ukrainian forces have also stabilized the line in Kharkiv Oblast, clearing the city of Kupyansk (despite Putin’s claims to have seized it), and fighting off Russian efforts to establish a so-called “buffer zone” along Ukraine’s northern border. ISW has observed evidence that Russian forces control around 35 percent of the so-called “buffer zone” between the E101 Kyiv City-Hlukhiv highway and Velykyi Burluk northeast of Kharkiv City, whereas Russian Northern Grouping of Forces (GoF) Commander Colonel General Yevgeny Nikiforov claims that Russian forces control about 75 percent of the “security strip.”

2/ Vivaldi followed a less heralded but extremely successful Ukrainian counteroffensive in the south. Ukraine liberated over 627 square kilometers in the Oleksandrivka direction and cleared over 300 square kilometers of Russian infiltrators between January 29 and August 12, 2026, driving the Russians largely out of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and securing part of its southern flank. Ukrainian forces liberated 26 settlements during the Oleksandrivka counteroffensive, emphasizing Ukraine’s ability to make relatively significant tactical advances.

Why should insurance companies run our healthcare when the government would do a much better job?
The government has an excellent track record of providing services with efficiency, transparency, and affordability. And why does competition matter anyway?
One step closer to communism! ✊
