If you're looking for a high-level introduction to the core ideas in authorization and how to use it to improve security and user experience by automating access control, check out my latest book, Authorization in Action from @ManningBooks amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/…
I think @tesla needs to work harder on their traveling salesman problem. When I’m planning a route I really don’t want to backtrack to go somewhere I’m driving right past on the way.
Dear UI Developers: When you're implementing a 2FA sequence that involves a security code, please ensure the input box automatically gets focus. Please? Pretty please? With sugar on top? #identity

I've been intrigued by closures since I taught introductory computer science from SICP at UC Davis in 1988. This post dives into a little programming language theory to trace a line from closures to objects to actors to picos. » Closures, Objects, Actors, and Picos

Bummed that there’s no @audible_com version of Hofstadter’s Gödel, Escher, and Bach.

Utah is lucky to have @DeidreHenderson as our LG. She’s right and I’m glad she is sticking up to the President.

Not comparable. A tiny number of terrorists have an outsized impact (killing hundreds of people in a very public way).
A small number of misregistered voters usually has no impact at all. Getting large enough numbers of fraudulent voters on the rolls and then to the polls to swing most elections is very difficult under current rules.
Not very impressed with FSD 14.3 lite. It has suddenly veered to the road shoulder three times since the update two days ago.

For MGM and Caesars in 2023, attackers didn't hack the login. They called the help desk, posed as employees, and asked for password and MFA resets.
The recovery path is a login path. Protect it like one.

How is U of I using AI to advance research? Luke Sheneman explains how our approach centers maintaining university-controlled infrastructure that allows researchers to make decisions about how tools are used, protect data, monitor resource use and manage costs.
Good story at @KUER about Utah election security. There's a video with county clerks walking through how election security is maintained. Worth a look if you aren't familiar with the process.

I call my blog Technometria and have a short essay from 2005 where I explain why. I looked at it this morning and realized link rot had killed all the links in it. They're important because they explain why I chose that name and what it has to do with blogging. They're fixed now. Thanks to the Web Archive (hint: donate today). windley.com/essays/2005/why_…
