This is wrong, as is tradition. ARC Foundation wasn't intended to receive permanent funding but to help schools develop their own resources. Funding from Min Ed ended *this* fiscal (not "several years ago") & they still get funding from BCTF, CUPE & the federal government.

the BC liberals didn't go to war with unions, gut social spending and give massive tax breaks to their rich friends just for y'all to say they weren't conservative. show some respect.

The government that wants to repeal DRIPA wants to adopt anti zionism as antisemitism 🙃
B.C.’s incoming premier Lorne Doerkson has pledged to make Jewish security a priority, including adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism and strengthening campus protections. The election also saw three Jewish MLAs elected, two Conservatives and one NDP member.

Doerksen is one of them. He supported the 100 Mile Freedom convoy. Wish people would realize these are his people and base. Lorne is MAGA!
All politics are ideological. That's kind of the point of politics. No one exists outside of ideology. It's just that some people have enough priviledge that they don't have to think about defending their own existence or fighting to have their history recognized & respected.
Things like trans rights aren't empty online discourse. They impact trans people's abilities to go to school, find work, find housing, find healthcare. It's unacceptable to me that a party should give up on basic human dignities just to appease bigotry.
The assertion that caring about human rights is somehow impatible with leadership is the most toxic part of election reactions. It takes less work to foster a society that supports everyone than it does to continually fend off the latest conspiracy swill.

Unfortunately, the Conservatives have spread the impression that repealing DRIPA would end litigation. That is completely wrong. The Cowichan litigation, for example, relies on section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982, (recognizing & affirming Aboriginal & treaty rights) not DRPA

Here is some reading material. Perhaps you weren’t around when we had a party with the same platform the Conservatives have.
People have forgotten, or never knew, what BC looked like the last time a government ran on the platform the Conservatives are running on now. Exact same scenario, Conservative take over from NDP. I think it’s worth remembering before you vote.
In fall 2001, BC gave Gordon Campbell a massive majority, and he used it to dismantle much of what the NDP had built. This week the Conservatives’ own campaign material pointed to Campbell’s 2001 approach as their model. So here’s what that looked like.
To pay for a 25% income tax cut, the 2002 budget cut every ministry outside health and education by an average of 25% over three years.
HEALTH CARE
• Bill 29 tore up the Hospital Employees’ Union contract, leading to the layoff of more than 8,000 health workers, mostly women. Many jobs were contracted out at lower wages. The Supreme Court of Canada later struck down key parts of the law as unconstitutional.
• MSP premiums went up 50% overnight.
• Hospitals were closed or downsized across the province, including Summerland and St. Mary’s in New Westminster.
HOUSING
• The new Residential Tenancy Act dropped the requirement for landlords to justify rent increases with actual costs, and later locked in automatic yearly increases of inflation plus 2%.
CHILDREN, YOUTH & EDUCATION
• Scrapped the NDP’s plan for universal $14/day child care, then cancelled the $7/day before- and after-school care program.
• Stripped class size and composition limits from teachers’ contracts. The BCTF says more than 3,500 teaching positions were lost. The courts later ruled that law unconstitutional too.
• Ended the tuition freeze. Tuition jumped 40% one year and 35% the next, and roughly doubled within a few years. Student grants were eliminated entirely by 2004.
• Created a $6/hr “training wage” for new workers’ first 500 hours and froze the minimum wage at $8 for nearly a decade.
WOMEN
• Cut 100% of core funding for all 37 women’s centres in BC.
• Ended the pay equity program.
• Eliminated the Ministry of Women’s Equality.
VULNERABLE PEOPLE
• Took away welfare earnings exemptions, so most people on assistance lost every dollar they earned. They also cut family shelter allowances and imposed a two-years-in-five time limit.
• Cut legal aid funding by about 40%, gutting family law help that women relied on.
• Abolished the BC Human Rights Commission.
That’s just a taste of last time.
I’m deeply disappointed about this result. I’m worried about what it could mean for health care, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ people, education and Indigenous rights…I don’t believe every person who voted Conservative is hateful or unintelligent. People vote for different reasons. But a win doesn’t make a policy harmless, and we shouldn’t pretend the campaign promises… or the rhetoric surrounding them… don’t matter. The Conservatives platform promises to repeal SOGI 123, an optional set of resources schools use to support students and address bullying related to sexual orientation and gender identity. It also promises to repeal DRIPA… B.C.’s framework for bringing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples into provincial law. Those choices put queer and trans students inclusion and reconciliation at risk. In 2024, Conservative candidate Marina Sapozhnikov used a racist slur to describe Indigenous people and made the baseless claim that 90% of Indigenous people use drugs. During this election, Conservative candidate Mike Hicks said First Nations needed to be “conquered.” Both incidents were condemned by Indigenous leaders. These words carry the weight of a violent colonial history, and political parties must be held accountable. On health care, the platform budgets $205 million a year at full cost for its promise to protect universal care and improve access. It also promises publicly funded treatment through another qualified provider if surgical wait benchmarks are exceeded. That raises real questions about how expanded care outside the public system could affect public staffing and access. What’s been hardest to watch is how hatred, scapegoating and misinformation have been pushed into the mainstream as “common sense.” Far right talking points have made it easier to treat our neighbours rights, identities and histories as threats. That should alarm all of us…I’m not saying every Conservative voter is stupid… you can’t judge one person’s intelligence by their vote, and research can’t explain why any one person voted the way they did. But studies do show a pattern, on average, between lower cognitive test scores and stronger socially conservative and authoritarian views. In a climate full of fearmongering and misinformation, critical thinking matters more than ever… question the talking points and check the facts…
And to the Conservative supporters all over social media right now, gloating, mocking people and telling them to “cry harder”… your side won. If your first instinct in victory is to become even crueler, that says far more about your character than it does about anyone you defeated…People are genuinely afraid for their health care, their schools, their rights, their families and their safety. Treating that fear like entertainment isn’t strength, patriotism or political debate. It’s a complete failure of basic human decency…You got the result you wanted. Try showing some humility and humanity. Do better. Be better. An election victory is a mandate to govern… it is not permission to strip people of their dignity, erase their history or treat their rights as negotiable…Human rights are not privileges handed out by whichever political party happens to hold power. Indigenous history doesn’t disappear because the truth makes people uncomfortable. Queer and trans kids don’t become less deserving of safety because adults have turned their existence into a culture war. Women’s equality is not settled enough to be taken for granted, and health care and education should never be sacrificed to satisfy an ideology…To everyone who feels frightened, angry or abandoned by this result… you are not alone. There are still people who see you, stand beside you and will fight like hell for you. I refuse to accept cruelty as “common sense.” I refuse to let misinformation become truth simply because it was repeated loudly enough. You won an election. You did not win the right to decide whose humanity matters.
Tourism contributes more to BC's GDP than natural resource industries, including forestry and O&G, and the food services industry is one of the largest private employer groups in BC.
The economy already runs on whale watching & coffee shops.
“You can’t build a provincial economy on whale watching and coffee shops.”
We need to be a province that builds, makes and creates. We need a provincial industrial strategy and we need to get serious about the loss of industrial land to real estate speculation.
Once industrial land is converted to other uses, it is extraordinarily difficult, if not impossible, to get it back. And without that land, where exactly do we expect the next generation of manufacturers, skilled tradespeople and industrial employers to go?
This is one of the most consequential challenges we face in British Columbia, with a lot of damage already done. I hope the new government makes it an urgent priority.
At some point, BC media needs to contend with the airtime they give to Angelo Isidorou & their role in completely laundering his image.
Isidorou has never walked back his white nationalist bs or his decision to, for example, platform neo-Nazis through the UBC Free Speech Club.

The behaviour in question: Emily Lowen at a wellness exercise park talking about the ultra wealthy paying their fair share.
The BC Cons just ran a campaign claiming they care about everyday British Columbians. Not even 24 hours later, they're back defending billionaires 🙄
This is the deeply disrespectful behaviour of the newly elected MLA for Saanich North and the Islands. Filmed during the 2026 Provincial Election.
We believe the location of this horrendous video to be the Seniors Outdoor Recreation area in Sidney BC.
I’m shocked and dismayed that voters here wanted this individual to serve us in addressing critical issues in the riding I have called home for nearly 20 years.
Our ER at Saanich Peninsula Hospital has been closed overnight for 3 ½ years under the previous Green/NDP government.
The behaviour of this MLA-elect along with the dismissive, angry and disturbing speech given after last nights election result may show a pattern of behaviour that is troubling.

I know this is generally how commodities markets work (and housing has become a commodity) but when it’s explained so plainly, it really does have the shape and cadence of a scam
