A quiet stillness, only the occasional raucous call of a gull disturbs the silence at Crosby beach. Air and water calm, bathing in the beautiful afterglow as high clouds reflect the last warmth of light on this last day of October and the start of the Celtic festival of Samhain.

Wow, what a brilliant night that was at Goodison, the 35th Dixie Dean Memorial Award which went to sixties legend Johnny Morrissey. Plus an eerie visit afterwards into a pitch black stadium at 11pm with @lewisroyden - full report coming soon on the @EvertonHeritage website.

Remembering lifelong Wednesdayite & former #SWFC player Ivor Seemley, who died #OnThisDay aged 85 in 2014. Ivor joined Wednesday in 1946 & played 23 games for the 1st team between 1953-5, including a FA Cup Semi-Final in 1954. He was a lovely man. #RIP

Sadly, Peter Dobing, who recently passed away, was in poor health when I was writing a biography of Roy Vernon, & couldn’t be of assistance. Two top players, their careers were intertwined, with spells together at @Rovers @ @stokecity .
Peter outlived Roy to the tune of 32 years.

On this day in 1927, W.R. Dean scored a hat-trick at Fratton Park to earn the Toffees a win on the way to the league title (and his 60 goals). Tomorrow, we celebrate Dixie & award the trophy named after him to Johnny Morrissey.
