When faced with the options of breaking the law to actually keep myself safer on the road or obey the law and being in danger, as a cyclist, I will 100% of the time break the law and I won’t debate this.

Cyclists, Stop wearing earphones and pay attention to the bloody road. You need spatial awareness to stay alert. Especially when you're cycling alongside cars. If we have to stay alert, so should you.
