The most honest statement ever made about Cuba policy came from a State Department memo in 1960, written before the sanctions were fully implemented.
The memo, written by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Lester Mallory, stated that the U.S. should pursue a policy to bring about hunger, desperation, and overthrow of the Cuban government.
Not: respond to "Cuban repression."
Not: protect Cuban human rights.
Not: promote democracy.
Hunger. Desperation. Overthrow.
This memo is declassified. It is in the historical record. It is not disputed.
It means that every subsequent year of sanctions, every subsequent citation of Cuban poverty and dysfunction as evidence of socialist failure, every subsequent American official expressing concern for the welfare of the Cuban people:
All of it happened downstream of a documented decision to deliberately produce hunger and desperation in that population.
This is not a conspiracy theory.
It is a declassified government document.
The conspiracy was the policy.
The theory was written in plain English by an American official in 1960 and has been implemented faithfully for 66 years since.
What they wanted to prove, they engineered the conditions to prove.
And then they called it evidence.

For more than a decade, John Mearsheimer has warned that the Bush-Cheney invitation of Ukraine into NATO -- which most Ukrainians long opposed -- was reckless. He also warned that the US use of Ukraine as a proxy would result in Ukraine getting "wrecked."
If you think Mearsheimer has been discredited, I don't think you care that Ukraine has been wrecked.

Let me explain it differently: When Gramsci or Bolívar used military metaphors, they borrowed terms from warfare to socialize our understanding of power. In the 1920s and 1930s, many Marxists had a mechanical view of revolution: they thought power was just about seizing the winter palace or having enough rifles (power is quantitative, event-based..etc.). Gramsci used the metaphor of "trenches" and "war of position" to pull people away from that narrow military fixation and show them that modern power is also and importantly rooted in complex social processes such as schools, newspapers, churches, trade unions, family structures, and everyday common sense. His metaphors expanded the frame to make human consciousness and social relations visible.
What the imperial security-military apparatus does today is the inverse process: it imposes a literal vocabulary of security and warfare in order to de-socialize the world. When Pentagon planners, NATO think tanks, and foreign policy elites turn every human reality into "chokepoints," "dual-use infrastructure," "human capital," "cognitive warfare," and quantitative tallies of technology and GDP, they are erasing social processes. We forget that social processes matter at all. They flatten living societies into a giant logistics board where only brute material quantities, kinetic capabilities, technological (material) development and elite command matter. Once that terminology becomes global "common sense," even people who consider themselves critics of the empire start analyzing the world through the eyes of a Pentagon logistics officer, for instance, by measuring everything in tonnage, missile ranges, and technological dominance while forgetting that history is made by social groups. The relation of social forces.

Cela pose la question des mesures qu'il faudra prendre à leur égard, une fois au pouvoir, pour rétablir la souveraineté populaire.
Et cette question se posera à toute force politique qui souhaite réellement permettre au peuple français de retrouver sa souveraineté.
