And on St. Crispin's, too. Think how many accents we could wipe out if we did it all again?
Crazy how English is the only Latin script language that doesn't need to deface its letters with diacritics. More proot that English is the greatest language in history

Quite. People attempting to solve a liquidity problem prove that a liquidity problem - which needs to be solved - exists.
Zuckerberg's fortune is mostly Meta shares, not cash in the bank. California's proposed wealth tax would take 5% of it, about $12bn, so the only way he can pay is by selling shares, which would cost him control of his own company. Meta has had to invent a new kind of share just to get around that. That's the liquidity problem Zucman says doesn't exist.

So here's the solution to the French problems. We should take back control, sort it out for them. Tsk, mere children who don't know how to do things, time for the adults again. Just the sort of thing we Anglos have to do each 6 centuries or so. No, no, thank us later. This story shall the good man teach his son; And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by, From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remember’d; We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accursed they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

If there should be slavery reparations then what about wimmins reparations? observer.co.uk/news/opinion-… And, well, OK. But you just wait until we Papists put in our application. There really was gross injustice, financial repression, exclusion from office and all the rest. We get all the churches back for a start, all that land of the monasteries. Plus the Duke of Bavaria gets to take his rightful place on the throne. Hey, if there're gibs to be got what is the case against this?

Journalists and numbers again: "he suggested they were owed $ 34bn (£25m). In today’s money that’s $ 231bn (£172m)." Sigh. On the other hand, if that sterling number is correct then each black American is owed three pounds fifty in slavery reparations. Seems like a wholly affordable number and we could have this sorted by lunchtime, no? observer.co.uk/news/opinion-…

Just to use the first on the list. From the Disney accounts. s206.q4cdn.com/979796730/fil… I mean, I dunno, obviously, but $1.4 billion looks like money to me.
If you paid $1 in federal income taxes last year, you paid more than: Disney American Airlines Citigroup CVS DoorDash GoDaddy H&R Block HP Kohl’s Ticketmaster Palantir PayPal Roku Southwest Airlines Tesla United Airlines Pizza Hut Taco Bell KFC Absurd. We need REAL tax reform.

Boy, is Laddie here going to be surprised when he hears of the existence of the bidet.....
95 percent of Christians women don't wash, they use toilet papers, while Sunnah of our prophet teaches us to use water. Some Muslims women make up about 25% of the world’s women population. In Islam, personal hygiene including washing after excretion is part of religious practice which necessitate all Muslim women to comply. So the assumption that 90% of all women in the world are unclean is false because of the good population of Muslims women. We have to thank God for Islam.

The answer is that only about 1% of the American workforce are on minimum wage. And near all of those are in tipped occupations. Minimum wage - the Federal one at least - simply isn't something relevant any more.
How the fuck are people on minimum wage in America meant to survive alone? The math just doesn't work. Take home pay for a 40 hour week is around $1,150 a month after tax and Social Security, but rent alone somewhere cheap is around $800. Add $220 health insurance, $350 utilities, and at least $70 a week on food, and you're about $520 in the hole every month and that's before transport or anything going wrong. Minimum wage doesn't even cover basic living anymore.

Such a tax affects everyone else who might think of entering the business. If "excess" profits are taxed away then there's no point in entering the field with such excess profits, is there?
Nope, that’s not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply. Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a company’s cost ie supply. Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.

The real problem with the California wealth tax is simple. Resources being allocated by the tech billionaires: good. Resources being allocated by California: bad.

It's a total horror, isn't it? Mere human beings having somewhere to live in, somewhere to work? Better to have empty fields, obviously.
Are we to concrete over every last acre of countryside for yet another Lidl or soulless warehouse? Drive down the M1 from MK to London and you’ll see mile after mile of hideous warehouses and sprawling housing developments. Whatever happened to quality of life?

I've no idea whether this is actually true or not but fun all the same. Now the Big Q for the blank slatists. Is walking speed learnt, environmental, or innate, genetic?
As an aside, IQ strongly correlates with walking speed. The correlation is, like, extremely significant. There are essentially zero outliers. Top quintile walkers are a full standard deviation smarter than bottom quintile walkers.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
A 2019 Dunedin study reports moderate correlation (β=0.38) between midlife IQ and gait speed with ~16-point mean quintile difference. "Essentially zero outliers" does not match this association's strength. jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

Lots of theories about this Tweet, my best guess is that a chatbot went rogue and locked them all out of the office. It becomes completely incoherent long before the end. I look forward to the account being returned to its previous owner.
Owen Jones has, for the last three years, revealed himself to be a man of enormous courage, integrity and truthfulness. No one should think for a minute that his relentless defence of Palestinian rights and historical truth is easy or comes without heavy personal costs. Throughout the genocide in Gaza, Jones remained a tireless bur rigorous and supremely decent voice. I suspect part of what initially moved him was the strong displeasure in being treated like an idiot by the official propaganda – a noble motive in itself – but there is no question he has been genuinely touched by the images of suffering arriving daily from Gaza. And yet, how does his intellectual fixation on a battle between left and right help us understand the horrors of Gaza, or move us to stop them? My impression is that the opposite has happened. People look at what is happening in Gaza and ask themselves what a person on the right or on the left should think. In many cases this is ideology. In most, simply careerism and group association. Jones shows how limited the perspective really is. How about, like the author himself, asking how a human being should feel? How about returning to the world of facts and feelings rather than our endless Marvel franchise? newstatesman.com/culture/boo…
