Thames Water is failing its customers and our rivers. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Special Administration offers a way out of this crisis, a chance to put people and nature before creditors. Tell the PM to act now 👇 riveractionuk.com/email-andy…
Greens have a plan for failing water companies like Thames Water. Special administration. Public ownership. Zero compensation for shareholders. When will Labour end the rip off?

Today Israeli authorities barred me and other European elected representatives from entering the West Bank to meet Palestinian students and civil society leaders, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation. We knew that by crossing into the occupied Palestinian territories, we risked being detained, interrogated and turned away by Israeli authorities. And that, alas, is exactly what happened. For more than eight hours, we were held, interrogated and made to feel as though we had done something wrong simply by attempting to enter. The simple truth is we had done nothing wrong. We went to show our support for the Palestinian people and highlight the terrible injustice and violence being perpetrated against them. We want to ensure that people back home do not look away from the reality of what is happening. Ultimately, we went to show solidarity. But we left with an even greater determination to speak out. We will not be silenced, and we will not look away. None of us should.

Water companies want to push up bills even further. AND Thames Water wants an excruciatingly expensive £2.4 billion bailout. No more water company failures at our expense. Let them go bust! ✍️Take 2 mins to email your MP and ask them to urge the Chancellor ahead of the budget: stop the bill hikes and bring Thames Water into special administration! vist.ly/5p22w

The next time Nick Clegg in invited onto BBC to pontificate as an independent tech expert…please note that here he is, named in the $27bn New Mexico judgment as one of execs engaged in a systematic cover-up of Facebook’s deceptive consumer practices.
Woah! Go New Mexico. This is a really important message to Silicon Valley tech companies: you are not above the law

On Tuesday, MPs held an evidence session into alternative forms of ownership for water. This wouldn’t have happened without the groundswell of support for public ownership. The pressure this has created has pushed the debate on from whether we replace the current privatised mess, to how we replace it. Off the back of this, I and 30 other Labour MPs have called on the Prime Minister to make public ownership the ultimate goal for water in his 10-year plan, and commit to a feasibility study that sets out how we get there. This government can be the one that fixes water for good - but only if it commits to full public ownership. Read more here: inews.co.uk/news/burnhams-pl…

This is how private interests manufacture consent for policies that are NOT in our interest Private companies have extracted £90 billion in dividends since privatisation - and loaded them up with £72 billion in debt It is time for Andy Burnham to bring our water into public ownership!

LET THEM GO BUST ! Last year, Thames Water took out a £3bn loan - at 9.75% interest. And now they want another £2.4bn to keep going?! All while the average Thames Water billpayer forks out £658 a year. ENOUGH. If water companies can't survive without rip-off pay day loans, they should be declared insolvent and brought into public hands through special administration.

Andy Burnham’s upcoming 10-year plan is a real opportunity to start taking back control of our economy. To break the cycle of government’s being dictated to by vested interests. This is a vital moment to take on those interests. To take on the likes of Thames Water, who have been ripping us off for years. If this moment is seized, I think the government will be pleasantly surprised by how many people fall in line. I spoke about this on Monday at @CompassOffice and @serauk's panel on Public Ownership of Water.

Public ownership of water is here for the doing if a big slice of the NGO world will just stop being scared to support it or wanting a slice of customers' money. Forget new regulation, we need to end the incentive for criminal pollution and that incentive is privatisation. Finally, the government dropped the pro private myths under a barrage of evidence from MPs. windrushwasp.org/single-post…

Last week's remarkable debate on the water ownership referendum - many of you and your MPs changed the government's narrative with this. petition.parliament.uk/petit… These words came from the Minister: “The Prime Minister has been clear that the Government’s priorities must be the public’s priorities" Hold them to it. There are 6 days left to sign it to play your part in driving change. Please do and please share widely across the platforms. Ends 1st October

"Thatcher Minister Defends Water Selloff Despite Thames Crisis." Let's be clear about this renationalising the water industry does not force water company investment to compete with other demands on the public purse like the NHS or education. Frankly that's a lie. We, the consumer, the bill payer, we are already paying for all this today, upfront, now. EG over the next 5 years we the bill players are financing 99% of the so called investment, paying for it directly from our water bills, that's why they gone up so much, it's not coming from shareholders, not from govt, not from tax payers but from us, directly from our bills. When will they stop making this stuff up? @Jess_Shankleman bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
