x420 coin went to the moon
x402scan V2 is live. In honor, here's the story of 200k DAUs in 7 days, a database on fire and tens of thousands in infra bills.
We launched x402scan 3 months ago to aid discoverability in the x402 ecosystem. We noticed there were ~150 x402 resources built 6 months after the Coinbase x402 announcement, yet most returned 500s and the remainder did not conform to spec.
x402scan was our homage to the protocol. We wanted x402 to succeed as an open standard for agentic commerce, and believed x402scan could move the needle.
A few days after we launched, the x402 memecoin frenzy happened. Starting with $PING. A coin where you could 'ping' with a few cents of USDC to mint. The mint interface... x402scan itself.
$PING exploded to a $70M marketcap over a few days. Briefly the memecoin meta was x402. Virtuals coins and other launchpads started built x402 integrations to appear on x402scan. x420 coin went to the moon.
Initially I was disheartened. We did not set out to build a 'memecoin meta'. But it was the fastest growing product we'd ever built. It gave us a chance to level up, improve the infra and experiment at a new scale.
So the team got to work. We rebuilt the DB, the query strategy, the cache, and much of the front-end over a sleepless week. All the while hundreds of thousands of users from around the world were hammering our site as hard as they could... certain they were a few clicks away from generational wealth.
Slowly, gradually, site performance came back. Load times were below 500ms again and the site was snappy.
Then we launched Composer, our homage to the composability afforded to agents by the x402 protocol. We launched Solana support.
In December we took a step back.
The infrastructure was in place. x402 v2 solved many of the gripes we had around the developer experience on the client and server side. But there was still not much to buy over x402. The 'apps' didn't exist. Memecoins are funny, but useless.
We've been laser focused on fullstack x402 apps since then. Apps that we hope will be the harbingers of an open agentic commerce future. We've seen ACP and UCP, but they feel like the AOL + Timewarner version of the internet.
Web1 and Web2 wouldn't have happened if browsers required all websites to whitelist. We're interested in an open internet where creativity and human ingenuity flourishes. We believe x402 is unique in it's ability to provide this future.
Today we're releasing x402scan v2. It's faster, more reliable, and easier to use than ever. We've come a long way since October.
Over the next few weeks we'll be rolling out the first pieces of our fullstack x402 apps. We're excited to put them in your hands.
