The Pantheon in Rome is one of those buildings that makes you wonder how ancient engineers achieved something so extraordinary nearly 2,000 years ago. Built during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, around AD 118–128, it features one of the largest unreinforced concrete domes ever constructed. The dome measures approximately 43.3 metres in diameter, with an open circular opening called the oculus at its centre. What fascinates me most is the way Roman engineers managed the enormous weight. They used heavier aggregates in the lower sections and lighter materials, including volcanic pumice, towards the top. The recessed square panels, known as coffers, also reduce the dome's weight. The oculus allows natural sunlight to enter and creates a constantly changing atmosphere inside the building. Even rain enters through this opening and drains through the floor. Nearly two millennia later, the Pantheon remains a remarkable example of engineering, geometry and architectural imagination. Ancient Roman engineering at its finest.

"If you want to help Alex, me or any of our athletes, pick them up when they are down. Kicking someone when they are having a bad day is a poor recipe for getting the desired result you seek." 📣 EJ Obiena has something to say to those who are very harsh on Alex Eala recently.

Hi Deped, please DISALLOW celebrating birthday parties at school. Not just it disrupts classes and minutes of valuable class time per celebration. It also creates an uncomfortable competitive atmosphere, highlighting financial disparities among families. @DepEd_PH

Alexandra Eala looks forward to the pressure of the world’s biggest stages in her sport, she tells CBS Mornings, after becoming a breakout star at the US Open. Eala shares how her grandfather supported her tennis aspirations, inspiring young athletes in her home country of the Philippines and her mentality on the court: “A dream is only a dream until it becomes a reality.”

It’s not just the money. At the Australian Open, there were people who drove 12 hours to watch her, people who flew from New Zealand, people who have never seen a tennis match live before, let alone a slam. And because Court 6 couldn’t seat all of them, some ended up standing outside, on the bridge, at the sidelines. If you love this sport, why wouldn’t you be more welcoming of people who spend their hard-earned money and their precious time just to experience it? It’s not business acumen that those armchair critics lack, it’s empathy and a wider world view.
How many times do we have to tell yall… it’s about MONEY! They put Eala on there cause she’s a fan favorite 💀

This. 👍👍
The funny thing about this conversation is that some people are questioning why Alex Eala is getting a bigger stage, when the answer has always been right in front of them: people are watching. In today’s sports world, attention is part of the game. The engagement, the views, the conversations, and the number of people she brings into tennis are not something you can simply ignore. Tournament organizers, sponsors, and management don’t put players in promotions because of favoritism alone. They do it because they see impact, demand, and the ability to bring more eyes to the sport. A bigger court for Alex is not an insult to Swiatek, Anisimova, Keys, Andreeva, or anyone else. Their greatness does not disappear because another player receives attention. A spotlight is not something that gets smaller when shared. Sometimes one person standing under that light is what helps others be seen too. Instead of asking, “Why does Alex get this opportunity?” maybe ask, “What can we do to help our favorite players create the same demand?” Because a bigger stage is not built by complaining about someone else’s success. It is built by fans showing up, buying tickets, creating noise, and proving that people care. Some of us are new to tennis, and that should never be something to laugh at. Every fan was once a beginner. Every fan once searched for names, learned the rules, and found a reason to love the sport. For many Filipinos, Alex was that reason. Because of her, people discovered tennis. They learned about Iga, Rybakina, Pegula, Keys, and many other amazing players. They didn’t just become Alex fans; they became tennis fans. And that is something every sport needs: new people who are willing to love the game. Tennis in the Philippines will never grow if we gatekeep the sport and mock those who are just starting to appreciate it. A community should not make people feel small for being new. It should be proud that more people are finally paying attention. So if you want your favorite players on bigger courts, support them with the same energy you use to criticize Alex. Build their audience. Celebrate their achievements. Help them become more visible. Because Alex Eala’s rise is not a threat to anyone. Her success is proof that Filipinos can create attention, passion, and love for tennis. The goal should never be to pull someone down from the spotlight. The goal should be to create enough light for everyone. #USOpen

Alex’s popularity is a double-edged sword. It puts her in bigger stadiums but the tickets are insanely expensive. Not every Filipino can afford to be there, yet we still show up. This is how we show up for our people. We just want to celebrate her wins and remind her she’s loved through the losses. Some of us discovered Iga, Rybakina, Pegula and so many others because of Alex. We learned the sport. We became fans. We even fangirled over those players. On a business standpoint, she SHOULD be put in a bigger court. Because data dictates that's where the money is. Her popularity is backed with how she plays and how she is a person. She is charming and charismatic. Basically... PR's dream. This is how we show up for our ONE representative. Mind you, we only have ONE. Show up for your player. You can do it everyday the way you post hate about Alex, every single day in every single match. 🇵🇭🎾❤️ #AlexEala

The Philippines has only two seasons: dry and wet. Dry season drains your wallet (high electricity bills) Wet season drowns your home (high floodwaters) We’re paying for both. CORRUPTION is the bill we never stop paying.

Alex Eala plays the US Open on Aug 30 as the most-watched Filipino athlete in a generation. And everywhere she goes, Filipinos go with her, from the countryside in England to a sold-out stadium in Toronto. Really enjoyed writing this one. 🙏🏻 @mvn_dn straitstimes.com/sport/the-c…

‘BAKIT BINABAYARAN NG GAMOT?’ Senator-judge Kiko Pangilinan asks Gina Acosta why informants were being paid with medicines during the 17th day of the trial on Monday. Kasi ang total n’yan is P122 million worth of medicines in three tranches,” Pangilinan added.
