Founders need diversification too.
Building a startup is already incredibly hard and risky. Donโt buy into the rhetoric that VCs often use to push founders to go "all-in" on their companies. This approach often serves investors more than founders, adding pressure that can actually hurt productivity.
Founders perform better when theyโre not carrying the burden that if their company fails, they lose everything. Just as we advise everyone else, founders should be well-diversified. You should not go into massive debt to fund your company. You should have a salary, invest in the stock market, and own real estate. The idea that founders should risk it all is outdated and often rooted in VC incompetence, not your best interest.
Founders, please prioritize your financial and emotional stability for yourself and your family alongside your startup journey.
A better you will make a better company for all stakeholders.
Have a blessed day.

Venture activity is back up. Founders, here are some things you should know:
1. Traction is key โ You still need strong traction to capture investors' interest. This hasn't changed.
2. Invest in design โ High-quality design for your deck and product can make a strong impression and help close potential investors. Between $500 - $5K is the appropriate budget. Anything less or more is likely too low quality or overpriced.
3. Warm introductions โ They only work if the introducer genuinely believes your business is a good fit for the investor. Someone that doesn't know you likely won't do an intro, don't waste your time.
4. Understand the investment process โ No investor commits on the first meeting. Always ask about the investor's process so you know how to navigate it (and confirm if youโre even in the running).
5. Bad actors โ Some investors are simply bad people, stay away from them and warn other founders about them.
Have a blessed day, and good luck in your raise.

I've been seeing so many great companies in the Future of Work space. This is a sector I've build a lot of conviction around and will actively be deploying to.
If you are improving the way people work and make money, please reach out. I'd love to learn more about your company.

Setting a reasonable closing dateโand sticking to itโis one of the most powerful moves you can make in your fundraise.
In todayโs market, rounds are taking longer to close, and investors often lack urgency for most deals that come across their desks. By establishing a clear close date a few months or several weeks out, you create a sense of urgency that encourages investors to make a decision.
Share that date at the end of your first meeting and keep investors updated on your progress on both your company and the round as the date approaches. This is the proper way to create FOMO.
And remember, even if you donโt hit your fundraising goal by that date, itโs perfectly fine. You can have multiple closes for your roundโjust like VCs do. Repeat this process until youโve reached your target, then do a final close so you can get back to work, building your company.
I hope this simple, yet practical tip helps you in your fundraising journey.
Have a blessed day!
