some people come into your life to teach you that your boundaries need to be stronger than your empathy and love.

Yep, I love how they’ve crafted the constructs in "Lanterns". The way they unfurl from a central point, the way they impact and pierce through surrounding objects like an unstoppable force, and the way the color green is rendered, as a multi-layered, complex texture.

It’s a boundary enforcer. Anyone who doesn’t want you to own it as an emotion doesn’t want you to have boundaries.

"I shouldn't have to ask" is one of the biggest lies in relationships. Yes, of course you have to communicate.
Ask anyone who is happily married, if communicating more or less works out better, and they'll all tell you to communicate more and stop the bullshit.

But you were the one who insinuated that people had low national esteem for liking the sketch na. Why hide your hand now?
Started a nollycivilwar because you cannot bear to imagine that people enjoy old nollywood in a way they do not enjoy your films. 1/
Aww darlings, I was on set shooting my new film (Details soon I promise💋 ) when I rather casually tweeted this in response to another tweet. A friend just called me now to tell me that it set you guys on fire. E pele ooo.
You guys need to learn that it’s okay for other people not to like what you like or to disagree with your taste, you don’t have to become sworn enemies over it.
I LOVE Nollywood as an industry and I’m invested in seeing it grow as such I love to see broader representations of it beyond the VCD era Nollywood nostalgia tropes. I also love nuanced representations of Nigerians, our accents, the ways we behave etc. It’s my preference. It’s fine that you enjoyed the sketch, I love that for you. If you felt proud of its representation, I love that for you too. It just wasn’t for me and that’s okay. I still love the Cynthia and British/Naija creatives that worked on it. Nothing against them ♥️
Now as you were. Rara says hi 💋

mehn so many people aren’t supposed to be parents
Kathy Bates says she was sure she never thanked her mother in her Misery Oscar speech, then the interviewer showed her the tape
"She gave up her retirement because I was born so late in life to them."
"When I won the Oscar for Misery, she said, I don't know what all the excitement about, you didn't discover the cure for cancer."
"Why did I think I didn't thank her?"
"Because she should have had my life."
"I wanted her spirit to come into me and enjoy everything I was enjoying because of what she'd given up."
Her mom's whole review of the Oscar was that she didn't cure cancer, and Kathy still believed she had shorted her that night. Then she watches herself thank her mom at home, right there in the speech. Some people never stop trying to pay their parents back. You can hear it in how quiet she gets at the end.

You could write master’s thesis (psychology) about this video

why cynthia erivo’s nigerian skit for snl uk comes off as hilarious and not xenophobic is because she is nigerian and she knows the fine line between caricature and an exaggerated portrayal for fun.

It’s fine to think the sketch in itself isn’t funny but they’re not being disrespectful. You can literally tell what era of nollywood they’re cosplaying AND SNL IS ALWAYS SATIRICAL. THAT IS THEIR SCHTICK!
Replying to @signor_martini
I think we’re so starved for representation and recognition on foreign platforms/stages that we rush to celebrate everything even when we’re the joke. I might be hyper sensitive but I personally I’m never thrilled at caricature portrayals of Nigerian culture or Nollywood. I get why people find it funny and if we were in a global media landscape that was flush with portrayals of Nigerians or our culture with excellence, I might find it enjoyable.
