Question for the quant people out there. If you were going to work on a new programming language outside of the stats platforms, which would you choose? I'm looking at Python or SQL. They do very different things of course (I think?)

Howdy all, suggestion for my journalist friends: please don’t call them work requirements. It’s an inaccurate misnomer.
Instead, call them what they are: paperwork requirements.

Working with a new administrative data set, so it's time to play that fun game:
Does... missing... really... mean... zero!
This is how you discuss a question about changing poverty rates: with a clear question and reasoning for the choice of measure. SPM is really effective at helping understand how well income support programs boost families.
Replying to @ZParolin
2/3: Another way to look at these trends: how strongly were taxes/transfers reducing child poverty rates in the given year? The record-low child poverty rates in 2020 and 2021 are attributable to the temporarily-strengthened welfare state.
This response thread was... unhelpful. Deeply so. Where to begin? Let's start with the basics: measurement validity.
The response also relies on the mistaken notion that there is one “correct” poverty measure. There isn’t. Different mechanisms for measuring poverty exist to answer the range of policy questions being asked.
