Deja Kelly was that girl. Star player and charismatic. She got dressed for New York on draft night, But her name was never called. Social media laughed at her . Deja handled it with grace. Then Becky Hammon called , another undrafted star who knew how it felt. Deja showed up . She hit the game winner . She played hard and defended . She even did the postgame pressers with Aja Wilson and Becky Hammon beside her. She did media day and took the photos and answered the questions . But today the Aces cut her . Just like that . No contract and no roster spot . Just another name on the waiver wire. What more was Deja supposed to do ? She did the media , she hit the shot, she played the minutes , she wore the jersey , she handled draft night with grace and she was becoming a great wnba redemption story …. And still it wasn’t enough . WNBA will tell you to be humble and to work hard and stay ready. Deja Kelly did all of that but not every undrafted player gets a fairytale. Some get forgotten. Some get judged for their image. Some get mocked on draft night, then left off the roster anyway. But Deja Kelly? She gave us everything. And the WNBA looked her in the face and said, “Not you.”
