On behalf of all officials in the North East we’d like to pass on our deepest condolences to the Jacobs family. Big Jake was a past Provincial RIC but more importantly a friend with a giving spirit and tonight we mourn with the Jacobs family and the entire Officiating community.

He traded in his gun for a whistle. Chris Schlenker played in @TheWHL for five years before joining the @medhatpolice. Now, the 34-year-old is a full-time referee in the @NHL. I caught up with him at the @NHLFlames game Saturday. #yql #yyc #nhl

Tragic end to the officiating career of linesman Thor Nelson. It's not just players who suffer from career-ending concussions
