Beautiful. Simply beautiful. I was ready for the Pop Tart bowl this week last year
At this time last year, we were 6-2, already effectively eliminated from the ACCCG, both losses were to unranked ACC teams, ranked #18, and were playing so badly I was 90% certain we’d drop another game and finish 9-3, and 100% certain we’d miss the CFP either way.
I personally was declaring that Mario would forever be incapable of staying out of his own way, unable to compete for ACC titles and CFP berths, and that he wouldn’t be the guy to lead us back to the top. I was also declaring that the move to sign Carson Beck was a failure and that he should be benched. Thankfully, both Mario and Beck proved me wrong—But the point is, THAT is how dire the situation was.
This year, we are 8-0 and the #1 team in the country. Our offense is the best in the nation and we have TWO players projected to reach NYC as Heisman Finalists. I am EXTREMELY unhappy with the defense, and have doubts about this team as a legitimate National Title contender, but the fact is, we look SIGNIFICANTLY more like a Championship-caliber team than we did at this time last year.
Does last year’s late-season run mean we will magically ALSO have a late-season run this year? Absolutely not. We could just as easily shift the comparison to 2024, where we were also 8-0 at this point with the #1 offense, but imploded down the stretch due to a poverty defense. That is an eerily similar situation to this year, so maybe that’s where we’re headed.
But I have hope folks. Unlike last year, I HAVE FAITH IN MARIO!!!!! AND I HAVE FAITH IN OUR QB!!!!!!!! HUGE TEST THIS WEEK—LET’S GO CANES!!!!!!!!
Miami and Florida fans should be terrified. You had a golden opportunity to bury Florida State while we were at our lowest, and you failed to capitalize.
Now the window is closing, and you're about to be reminded who runs this state.
Daddy's coming home. #GoNoles!
Will be dressing warm, thank you Danny!
What are you trying to say here? The Atlantic Coastal Conference shouldn’t be playing conference games in ….. Palo Alto, CA?
These are my top 5 reasons why college football attendance is dwindling:
1. The death of regional games and rivalries. Too many schools are now in conferences that make no geographic sense. Having gone to Arizona State, seeing annual games with the LA, Bay Area, Oregon & Washington schools replaced w/ conference games against schools from Kansas, Texas, Florida, Ohio and West Virginia doesn't resonate. This is being felt everywhere.
2. Conference imbalance. We now have a world where the Big Ten and SEC are inherently favored for earning CFP bids and higher rankings before each season begins. The ACC and Big 12 are Tier 2 leagues, and the G6 schools are essentially in a separate class. This has produced an uneven, biased landscape that is entirely unfair.
3. Noise pollution. I go to college football games to tailgate, watch football and listen to marching bands - not for blaring music and sound effects, hyperventilating PA announcers, and flashing light shows. The environment has been degraded.
4. Expanded College Football Playoff. We've entered an era where if your school isn't contending for a CFP bid, it's playing out the string.
5. The transfer portal. Annual free agency has many schools turning over rosters by more than 50-75%. The connections between players and fans has greatly eroded. Most fans can't name 10 guys on their teams any more. That's not ideal.
The sport needs more stability, the return of regional conferences, better game day atmospheres, and a more level playing field.
