Tribalism is gangrenous rot to democracy, peace, and human flourishing.
Remind me to ask your opinion, not your team. To respond with curiosity, not condemnation. To debate, not demonise. To critique the opinion, not the person. Disagree, not reject. To value challenge, not confirmation. To forgive your flaws and remember my own. To assume good faith.
Tribalism is evolved. Limbic. The most natural thing in the world.
We must fight it with all our hearts.
Knowing what's truly possible and daring to commission the fantastical despite the intellectual cynical is just as impressive as the all the technical
The typical response to any credit towards @elonmusk is "he didn't personally invent it." Yet the list of things he didn't "personally invent" becomes longer, more impressive, and more magical - all by the same common factor - Elon. It shows a deep misunderstanding of how complex systems are engineered. These things are constructed by giant teams of engineers each in different departments and different specializations. How many people do you think construct an iphone? One dude in a lab coat? Or how about a giant team in Taiwan of engineers trying to figure out how to cool just one micron of a semiconductor.
The vision is the ability to know how all these pieces fit together and how to allocate resources on informed principles that you think will be most likely to work to innovate working product out of theory. That requires immense knowledge to synthesize untried ideas with the most likelihood to succeed. That includes the ability to have insight and deeply communicate with the right intellectual and creative partners that specialize in specific solutions. If you think making these decisions are easy before you accumulate enough failures to run out of money, I guess start up your own Tesla, Space X, Paypal, Neurolink and see how long your Monopoly money lasts.
This isn't as much a defense of Elon Musk as much as it's a call out to the "I could do that too" assholes.
No, you can't. You're too busy tweeting you are smarter than Elon on X (an Elon Musk company).

Elon Musk flips a vehicle upside down and everyone claps and cheers. But when I do it, suddenly I'm "recklessly endangering children" and "unfit to be a school bus driver".
Eye-opening. Thank God the engineers didn't get 'feedback' from all the joyless cynics and Debbie downers. Those people need to be ignored so hard. Not just on this, but on everything.
I'm not 100% 'guns don't kill people, people kill people' but in this situation, the problem is not the axe.
UAE authorities have confirmed that this is what the terrorist used to attack Captain Smit Macchhar.
Those who were asking where did he get the knife or any weapon from, this "crash axe" is a mandatory tool kept inside cockpit to break through metal or glass during emergencies.
Imagine being attacked with this in a small space like a cockpit!
Apparently his plan was to kill the pilot over Jordanian airspace and then crash the plane somewhere in Israel.
Captain Smit is lucky to be alive. Respect increased for him after looking at this weapon.
Just had my Reddit account taken over via a Gmail password reset link. Suspect it was the Shop app (by Shopify) — it had broad read access to my entire Gmail inbox and was actively scanning around the exact time.
Strongly recommend everyone check + revoke it: Google Account → Security → Third-party apps with account access → Remove "Shop"
@Shopify @shop

Technically it's only a good deal if the combination grows faster than Tesla on its own. My position is: "see honey, I'm diversifying!" 😂
Exasperated at being robbed of hope by pathologically pessimistic 'tech news' again and again. I was reliably told that quantum computing was an unrealistic gimmick. What the hell. Could have been excited this whole time.
