Right-wing Christians tend to hate groups of people (Ds, immigrants, LGBTQ, etc) as an “ideology” but love individuals. So they don’t perceive it as hate. For people in those groups, those things aren’t their “ideology,” it’s part of their identity. So they do perceive it as hate. Not confusing at all.
The church I attended back home was full of MAGA Trump supporters who wanted deportations and border security, and we also had a ministry helping refugees in our city. This confuses many people on X.

As conservative Christians continue pushing the boundaries of religious accommodations, it’s important that we atheists and humanists learn to assert those same rights. Religious freedom isn’t just for believers.
An atheist requested a "religious accommodation" to refuse AI at work—and his university agreed. David Durman says generative AI conflicts with his Humanist beliefs. Kudos to @americnhumanist for making it happen! friendlyatheist.com/p/atheis…

I have an American flag at my house and love this country but I’d put it last on this poll too Mostly because “patriotism” has come to mean “you have to clap like a seal every time we bomb an elementary school”
We need to confront the fact that anti-Americanism has become the default stance of the Democratic voter base.

The phrase "one nation under God" was officially added to the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance on June 14, 1954. Get rid of it. Separation of church and state.
One nation under God. Then, now, ALWAYS.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. helenwebberley.com/news/tran…

This is why the white house should be rebuilt in a modest, American architectural style, brutalism.
When George Washington was inaugurated in 1789, he wore a relatively plain brown frock coat. To the modern eye, the garment may look fancy, but it was relatively constrained for a man of Washington's position. Affluent Americans at the time tended to wear European fabrics, as centuries of textile tradition on that side of the Atlantic meant that their materials were finer, silkier, and more luxurious. Those who could afford to wear such materials often did, not just because they were more comfortable, but because they signaled status. Washington rejected this convention for his inauguration, opting instead for a plain brown frock coat made from an American-made material, specifically one produced by a relatively new upstart in Connecticut. It's also notable that his outfit for that day was considerably more restrained than those of leaders in other Western nations. For instance, check out this outfit on George III (slide one). In this 1762 coronation painting, we can see the British monarch wearing a gold damask coat with a velvet mantle lined and edged with ermine and trimmed in gold. Even his shoes featured solid gold buckles. Washington opted for something simpler because he wanted to send two political messages. First, he wanted to support domestic industry (hence his request that the garment be made from American woolen broadcloth). Second, he understood that the US was supposed to be a democratic republic, not a monarchy. Back in Europe, monarchs wore fancy ceremonial attire to reinforce their position in society. Washington, by contrast, chose something more restrained, signaling that he was not governing through divine right but rather through consent of the people. Irish-born architect James Holban also understood this when he designed the White House in the Neoclassical style, drawing from Georgian and Palladian architecture. Neoclassicism was a rejection of Rococo, which had been fashionable among European monarchs and aristocrats in the preceding decades. Most people will know Rococo from the photos of the lavish French palaces erected during the reign of Louis XV. Much like the elaborate ceremonial attire of European monarchs, these interiors were meant to impress upon people the wealth and power of European leaders. The visual grandeur reinforced the idea that these people fundamentally occupied a different social station from those they governed. To be sure, the White House was much nicer than what ordinary Americans at the time would have occupied. But much like Washington's inauguration outfit, Hoban's design was meant to balance the dignity of the office with the republican ideal that political authority ultimately comes from the people. Our leaders are not above us; they are here to serve us. That is why the White House was decorated in this relatively restrained way for almost 250 years, changing only recently. I have seen some on here suggest that glorifying the White House is meant to glorify the state, and thus the citizens. But this logic was historically used by dictators abroad, not US presidents.

The “great millennial wealth transfer” is not going to happen, except in the sense that the companies which own LTC facilities will eventually be controlled by millennials.

If you are a minority in the US (or anyone really) buy an ACTUAL firearm. Do not put yourself on a lesser level in a situation that could be life or death.
I think it's important for queer people to protect themselves in the safest way they are able. As a leftist, I'm a strong advocate for gun ownership and safety training. Yeah, you read that right. If you go far enough left, you get your gonna back. While we do have firearms in the house, they stay locked up in my closet. This is Bernie the gas powered Blicky. A Byrna. My home defense weapon of choice, and the safest way for a home full of depressed neurodivergent folks and kids to feel safe in an uncertain world. If the blue laser and 1000 lumen light in the face doesn't deter someone, and the first round of pepper spray/teargas combo doesn't stop someone, the four steel balls that follow certainly will. If that doesn't stop someone, then we've got backups that go bang, and they certainly will. It won't unalive anyone, but if somebody takes a couple hits they're going to wish it had for long enough to get away.

If you're a single-issue gas price voter, you should probably spend like 5 minutes looking up how oil prices work. You'd learn that the US president has very little impact on them unless they do something crazy like shut down a pathway for a quarter of the world's oil.

Stop understating this. A trans Hyde Amendment is less like denouncing gay marriage in 2006 and more like denouncing antiretroviral therapy for HIV patients in 2006.
If this was 2006 Josh Turek would be taking about defending traditional marriage. If this was 1956 Josh Turek would be talking about keeping white and black kids to their own spaces. He would be just as spineless in any era, it’s how he is. Nobody’s free until everybody’s free

Believing that Cash for Clunkers are the primary cause of today’s sky-high used car prices requires you to think that removing 700,000 cars with an average age of 14 years from the market in 2009 had a larger impact than removing 2,000,000 cars with an average age of 0 years in 2020-2021, among other things.

The general public should be made to play XCOM until they understand.
This is like the "if you hadn't had breakfast this morning" test. Remember when Nate Silver predicted Hillary Clinton beating Trump in the 2016 election at 71% confidence--then everyone rubbished him, because Trump won? Then, of course, someone looked at all his ~70% predictions and found that they were right about 70% of the time, i.e. 70% the predictions were rather well calibrated.

Quick weekend reading for my Texas gun folks. Some folks choose to carry everywhere and that's a choice. Others may be more rule followers. For those, here's a quick reference. Know which ones apply to you - there is a felony or two hiding in these signs for armed civilians.
