Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Thankfully I think that’s about it for the security vulnerabilities and we probably won’t find any more

on the vibecoded adobe suite i think both the effort and the expectations are completely misplaced. illustrator is 39 years old, photoshop 36. people really did expect to catch up in two weeks. attacking the full suite makes no sense. if you’ve been using photoshop, indesign, or illustrator for 20 years, you’d have opinions. you’d notice even the smallest inconveniences and have ideas for how to improve your workflows. with ai, you’re finally in a position to make bespoke software that serves you perfectly and brings you joy. look at aseprite, which specializes in pixel art. losslesscut, which does one thing premiere makes unnecessarily complicated. photopea, which started as a browser-based psd viewer and grew into a serious editor over 14 years. figma, which rethought design around collaboration. each of these projects has a point of view. each understands something about how people actually work. instead, we get seven adobe-shaped applications, recreating the surface without understanding what led to the underlying decisions. not an alternative vision for creative software, just a checklist of features to imitate. it’s slopware, and it trivializes decades of genuine attempts to free people from adobe. the tragedy is that we finally have the tools to make the software we actually want, and instead we’re making the software we already have. and if you needed any more evidence that this was never about making better software, having finished 40 years of adobe development in two weeks, he’s now moving on to microsoft office.
I wanted to show how janky the AI slop is of the FilmCraft software. I wanted to set the stage for how bad it is, and how little care there has actually been in implementing this tool, and most definitely the entire Craft suite too. It's all AI slop that does not even work.

Can I just say how tired I am of these kinds of remarks? They're getting more and more common as the internet has become armchair experts on all software and businesses. We build best in class software and make it available completly free. No one else in our category does that. No one. Don't want it? Dont use it. Sentry will absolutely run just fine on 32gb of memory, but thats not even the point. Its complex. That complexity comes from nearly two decades of development. Some of it is avoidable, some of it isnt. This is why cloud services exist - because we can amoratize the cost and complexity vs spending every waking hour optimizing every small part of a system to run on random low powered VPS. "Rewrite in Rust" - you don't maintain the software, nor do you undrestand what that means. An important chunk of Sentry is already in Rust (which could be C++ or Go!). The rest makes absolutely no sense to even suggest that. No one wants to work on a user facing web service with Rust, waiting on compile times non-stop. Nor do our customers. They want a great product, and they want to keep seeing improvements to that product. Our time is spent making it actually better for our 100k customers, not optimizing for your single use case. There is always opportunity for improvement, but takes like this are both ignorant and entitled.
At this point, if @sentry won’t rewrite their service in Rust, I will do it myself. I installed it on a 32 GB AWS instance, and it immediately used all the RAM. What?

Double Counter has silently changed its Privacy Policy. What did they change? They changed some of the wording, removed an entire section (Data Retention), and changed most of the wording in another section (Security). Left = before Right = now
We're aware of a security incident involving Double Counter, a third-party bot developer. We've confirmed Discord's systems were not breached. We are preventing new server installs of Double Counter's app while we investigate the incident. We're working closely with Double Counter and will take further actions as appropriate to protect our users.

turns out fundamental knowledge still matters. truely hate this fucking timeline. everybody just leaves their brain at the door now.
Oh come on. Quick look at colorshift (13x faster): HashMap in hot loop (unoptimized Rust vibeslop) is slower than indexed arrays (ASM). No shit. Numbers like 17x should raise eyebrows but reading the comments nobody is thinking anymore. This AI psychosis has fried people's brains

this is going to result in way too much enshittification of the internet. Imagine not getting a table ever at your favorite restaurant, never getting to borrow a book for your child, never getting that movie ticket. This is why more companies will find ways to ban agents.
I just wired up a @Muse workflow I’m *completely* obsessed with. I name a book. Muse checks my @LibbyApp account and, if an ebook is available immediately, borrows it and sends it to my Kindle. If not, it compares the fastest wait time on Libby with the wait for a physical copy at my two local libraries, chooses whichever method will get me the book sooner, and notifies me when it’s ready. This is so slick and works so well, I can hardly believe it! The kicker? I can't hook up Muse to my @goodreads because Amazon blocks it.

I feel like so many AI agent tools get it wrong. Software engineers naturally optimize their tools for what they want, which is writing code, but I want things that will actually help my life outside of tech. Only a very small percentage of the world needs even more code

good news: astra can't do actual work either. 50% of the time it just does random bullshit you didn't ask for despite clear prompts or just completely misunderstands an objective it clearly understood 10 seconds ago don't wanna be a hater but the models are still not good yet. i recommend eating tacos and bbq instead
I know GPT-6 Astra is expensive to run, but its really unusable. Im on x20 pro plan (worth 200usd a month btw) and i cant last 2 days of doing actual work on it. If they cant host it in a usable way, whats the point of releasing it? I hope they either make limits better, or cook with GPT-6 Sol to the point where Astra is useless.

We're adding support for AGENTS.md to Claude Code. Starting today in version 2.1.277, if there is no CLAUDE.md in a folder, Claude will check for and use AGENTS.md. You can toggle this behavior in /config.
