Here's an Elsa Lanchester birthday treat from my new book: a never-before-seen photo of 28-year-old Elsa as 12-year-old Winnie Marble in Payment Deferred (and a more grown-up portrait from the programme). Pre-orders for the the limited edition close soon. fabpress.com/elsa-lanchesterโฆ

They are so certain that they are right
and have blocked everybody outside their bubble
that reality is often a shock when they come up against it

Although there are over 200 great images in my book, you won't find this one or any from Elsa's Disney films. It's a rule of publishing that there are three types of images you never use in print if you want to avoid a visit from legal gorillas: Disney, Godzilla and Star Trek.

The fact is, some people see charts like this and think "we need to do something about this".
And some people think "we need to do something about people who think we need to do something about this".

Yugoslav map of Britain & Ireland from the 1980s, with English place names amusingly rendered phonetically to reflect their pronunciation.
Credit: Reddit user TheKingMonkey who explains the maps origins:
"From a display on the wall of the โMuseum of the 80sโ in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Iโm not sure why I like the Serbo-Croat (or at least thatโs what I assume it is) names for the cities as they look like they are almost phonetic attempts at English language pronunciations."

Well hereโs an incredible fact for the day we turn back time. This naval gun, being straddled by Cher in the video to If I Could Turn Back Time, is the same naval gun also pictured here, as the Japanese sign the declaration of unconditional surrender, formally ending WW2.

Hilary Cass said opposition to a ban on puberty blockers was so entrenched that proposal trial seemed to her only way of convincing the opposition. Yet imposing harm on children involved in a trial is obscene. Shame former PB subscribers couldn't be forced to submit case evidence
Exactly this.
How does Hilary Cass reconcile outrage about kids under 12 receiving hormones with her support for the #pubertyblockertrial

I'm just going to point out that there are two people at the start of this hike.
Jason is the new Karen.
He said it was FAA rules which he was clearly clueless about. @AmericanAir it was already up there and everyone had boarded and there was no other issue other than his power trip. And I was in first class. And Iโm exceutive platinum which is top tier โloyaltyโ

So you're not going with "Things that never happened" to "OK it did happen but so what?" Amazing work there.

An actual human being said this under their own name.
Spoke to @benkentish on @LBC about Tuesday's anti-austerity march, and why I'm inspired by the young people in France.
Street violence should be condemned. But a third of British children live in poverty. That's violence too.
March with me: Tue 27 Oct, 6pm, Victoria Embankment
