Peace Region farmers. Ag Cdn entomogists sweep about 120 canola fields in a whirlwind tour late June/early July. This acts as an early warning of pest issues. They'd like a vebal OK to enter, so pls e-mail [email protected] for info or to offer permission for field entry.

It's a strong odd-even signal. I have been keeping track since I noticed in 1995, and AAAF has kept detailed counts since 2003 or so (heroic field work). Here is a graph I submitted in a paper a while back. Weather does not affect it the way it affects the trends farther south.

We (science community) have failed to talk with the public about:
✔️the investigative process
✔️ legacy and ‘standing on shoulders’
✔️the importance of peer review and collaboration
✔️nuance and trade-offs
✔️what scientific consensus really means.
We need to step up. #scicomm

Prep your palate for some repeat wizardry. Drink like a king as you float along in your bathtub, destined for a vacay that can exist only in your mind. It might feel softer than a baby’s face, but it hits real hard. Soon returns the boom.

A drizzle does not do much, but extended cold rain may clip off the beginning of the hatch. But the eggs in the ground are unaffected and can even be under water for a little time. They have a wax seal. When it warms up, they can hatch. Later, warm and wet might promote disease.

The most effective way for Albertans to #FlattenTheCurve is by taking a comprehensive, society-wide approach.
Not testing alone. Not contact tracing alone. Not social distancing alone. All of them, together.
