Very excited to share our recent @NGMJournal publication on distinguishing the contributions of neuronal vs mucosal serotonin in the regulation of colonic motility 🥳onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
Using the SSRI, fluoxetine, to increase serotonin signalling to neuronal receptors, we show that #serotonin within EC cells in the #gut lining is the major contributor to regulating colonic contractions, with no demonstrated role for neuronal serotonin.
Our findings address a long-standing debate on the importance of neuronal vs mucosal serotonin to regulating gut function 👏🏆 A great collaborative team effort by all @FlindersHmri @Flinders @unevadareno (@alyce_martin @ConfocalJones @LaiWeiLisa @nickjspencer1 @dj_keating)
