Good deal for MDA. Less good news for European antenna makers who could have carried this workload. A secure constellation built partly on foreign components is a fragile kind of sovereignty.
MDA Space, a Canadian aerospace technology company, has signed an agreement with Thales Alenia Space to develop digital phased array antennas and digital antenna controllers for the first batch of 66 satellites in the EU's IRIS2 secure communication constellation.😀

NASA's investigation suggests that the loss of contact with MAVEN may have been caused by a flight computer restart and a gyroscope malfunction. NASA lost contact with the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Explorer (MAVEN) in December 2025.😀

It took over a decade to build the International Space Station, and almost everything went right. Sandy Magnus was there, carrying a piece of the truss to orbit on her first mission and spending long stretches in Russia to learn how different countries approach space. The new episode of Ascending Node is out now: youtu.be/iF7u2aZB74Q

Good point ! Reusing the lander as an orbital asset or robotic science station makes sense. The challenge is whether refueling, maintenance and reuse cost less than building a new one. To be honest, I used to have that kind of thought.😊
