Aerith gave Cloud the black materia cus she knew that Cloud would physically assault her if he didn't do it, while he went easy on Tifa. Also Tifa is the one who ultimately saves cloud and its gonna happen again. Its almost like both Aerith and Tifa are IMPORTANT characters.

Growing up as a FF7 fan is realizing that Cloud’s fake Zack persona comes out and exists because of Tifa— Whereas with Aerith— Cloud’s real self shines through with him DIRECTLY asking her who he is.

Aerith does initially see similarities but she falls in love with Cloud genuinely for who he is. Aerith actually said this quote to the right when the party went to Gongaga. So it was actually VERY early on.

I know some people hate it but I think Ff7 Rebirth’s final act is so brilliant because of how much it messes with your head. The agonizing back and forth about whether or not Aerith is okay, had me in absolute tears as the credits rolled.

A big impression I get from people who think Aerith or Zack should live in any way shape or form are people who really don’t like it when fiction isn’t always comforting. They can’t handle a story that emotionally challenges them so they would rather those challenges not exist.
