How do luxury beliefs spread to the general public? Imagine that tomorrow, the people who shape culture decide that littering is no longer a big deal. The opinion pages of major newspapers start running essays arguing that concerns about litter are overblown. Glossy magazines publish longform pieces suggesting that cleanliness norms are socially constructed, maybe even a little oppressive. The hot new series on your favorite streaming platform depicts attractive and interesting characters tossing trash on the ground without a second thought. Academics, journalists, politicians, CEOs, and influencers all start saying some version of the same thing: littering is not a serious issue. And if you criticize someone for doing it, you are the problem. You are being judgmental. You are enforcing outdated norms. You need to let people live. Perhaps some new legislation is passed that decriminalizes littering. Over time the message becomes clear. Throwing trash wherever you want is acceptable. It is normalized. It is actively defended. Now let me ask you something. Would anyone be surprised, 5 or 10 years later, if garbage started piling up? Would anyone be surprised if that problem was not evenly distributed? If it showed up most in lower-income neighborhoods while affluent areas remained relatively pristine? That’s the pattern. The people who promote the luxury belief are insulated from its consequences.

I truly believe there is a safe space and love for EVERYBODY. Biological girls, biological boys, trans women, and trans men. Everyone is welcome at my table! You can disagree and still be kind. Bravo to those girls for standing up for what they believe. You’ll be hearing from me soon💕 yay for gifts. Truly embarrassing of the co-owner. Unfortunately shows the type of leader she is.
The Seattle Storm have apologized for the conduct of a co-owner toward to young girls who were supporting Sophie Cunningham on Tuesday night. But footage and testimony shows a further storm of chaos the two girls endured that the team has not addressed. foxnews.com/outkick-sports/s…

Probably the most revealing thing about the Platner stuff is that when liberals think of the “working class” they think of a misogynistic Nazi rapist.

I was never taught America is great because it’s richer/bigger. I heard about the light bulb, airplanes, movies, the telephone, rock, jazz, basketball, the Internet, nuclear power, Ali-Frazier, Thoreau, King, Lincoln, Twain, Chandler, the Hoover Dam and the Fender Stratocaster…
NYC Mayor Mamdani on American exceptionalism: "We are told that America is exceptional because we are richer, stronger, more powerful than everyone else... The truth, my friends is that America is exceptional because here, nothing is fixed into place."

I do continue to crack up at this idea that Democrat politician moral fiber was so high at some point. When I started working, the Senate Democratic caucus was home to Sen. Killed That Girl in Chappaquiddick, Sen. Waitress Sandwich, and Sen. Klan Member
My favorite interview genre right now is watching Democrats attempt to run on superior morals and higher standards of conduct, then get asked about Platner. The immediate switch to dodge and deflection mode is hysterical. Behold CO Gov candidate Michael Bennet:

9 days after experts in the NY Times said men would never fly, Orville and Wilbur took off. 66 years later, we landed on the moon. Today, we rescued a pilot stranded in Iran with no loss of American life while also setting up a spaceship to orbit the moon. America is awesome.

*Why are we blowing up ships in international waters?* Because they’re weapons platforms used by the enemy. *Why aren’t we rescuing enemy sailors?* Because nuclear subs don’t give away their position in wartime. *Why should the warmongers have any say over Iran’s post-Islamic Republic future?* Because that is a spoil the US and Israel will win for themselves on the battlefield. Have we forgotten? That is how wars work. nationalreview.com/2026/03/a…

Why now? The ״Closing Window״ Paradox. There is a recurring dynamic in history: When the window to act against dangerous regimes is open, urgency feels low. When urgency finally arrives, the window to stop them has already closed. It always feels “too early” until it’s too late. North Korea, Nazi Germany, and now Iran. Iran was building missile factories so it could produce thousands of missiles. Imagine what it’s doing now to its neighbors, and multiply that by 50. Iran was hardening and burying its nuclear program deep underground so nobody could destroy it, not even the US. Step by step Iran was moving towards immunity. Wait two more years, and you lose the ability to act. The closing window never announces itself. Responsible leadership must act before it’s too late. That’s what’s happening now.

Tax and Spend So the Mamdani budget for New York City at $127 billion exceeds the budget for the state of Florida ($116 billion) which has 3 times as many people and yet people are moving to Florida for a better quality of life. So the answer is to get a mayor who will put efficiency back in the city not to raise property or other taxes by 10 per cent as such a tax jolt will kick off yet another round of departures from New York while Florida shows that it can be done. And to compare apples to apples the New York State budget last year was $254 billion. So it’s not about insufficient taxes but spending that far exceeds what could be accomplished with good government. (Miami Dade budget is on 13 billion). New York City has been there before, teetering on bankruptcy in the 1970s until fiscal sanity was restored and when then happened the city took off as a great place to live. And yet here we are again back at tax and spend oblivion.

I was a fourth-generation newspaper journalist. My first job was taking local election totals off a chalkboard at the courthouse and relaying them to the local newsroom. I delivered the AJC at 4 am every day of my freshman year of college. I'm sad we don't have local Metro dailies now instead of the Columbia Journalism School-to-NYT pipeline, which gives almost no journo any exposure to normal people. But acting like these institutions haven't EARNED distrust is just missing the story.

The moment was Covid. It happened. Almost every journalist in the nation failed to relay reliable information, instead succumbing to panic and the widest-spread daily curtailment of civil liberties in my lifetime. The rare figures who didn't were silenced or stifled or removed.
Every single word of this fantastic column by @Peggynoonannyc ‘I fear sometimes that few people really care about journalism, but we are dead without it. Someday something bad will happen, something terrible on a national scale, and the thing we’ll need most, literally to survive, is information. Reliable information—a way to get it, and then to get it to the public. That is what journalism is, getting the information. ‘ wsj.com/opinion/a-lament-for…

If you claim to support human rights yet can’t bring yourself to show solidarity with those fighting for their liberty in Iran, you’ve revealed yourself. You don’t give a damn about people being oppressed and brutalised so long as it’s being done by the enemies of your enemies.
