🚧🛣️ KAMPALA TO JINJA IN LESS THAN ONE HOUR INSTEAD OF 3+ HOURS? THE KAMPALA–JINJA EXPRESSWAY COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING! Let's talk about the Kampala–Jinja Expressway, one of Uganda's most anticipated road infrastructure projects. Here is what you need to know: 👉 Approximately 77km of tolled expressway, alongside an 18km Kampala Southern Bypass. 👉 Estimated project cost of $1.48 billion (about UGX 5.3 trillion), to be implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. 👉 AfDB signed a $229.5 million loan agreement to support Phase 1, covering Kampala to Namagunga. 👉 Expected to reduce travel time between Kampala and Jinja from over 3 hours to less than 1 hour. 👉 At least 1,500 direct jobs are expected during construction. 👉 Government and the African Development Bank have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the project. BUT THERE IS A CATCH! 😅 Despite the progress made in the procurement and financing arrangements, construction is yet to begin. The 2025 bid opening attracted only one consortium, leaving many Ugandans waiting for the next major milestone. This is more than just a road. It is a strategic investment in Uganda's transport network, trade, tourism, logistics and economic transformation. For Jinja road users, traders, transporters and boda boda riders, this project could be a game changer. The big question is: WHEN WILL WE SEE THE FIRST EXCAVATOR ON SITE? 🚜 @MoWT_Uganda @HonByamukama #KampalaJinjaExpressway

🚨🏗️ NEW FINDINGS EMERGE IN THE COLLAPSE OF BRO RONNIE’S CHURCH BUILDING Preliminary findings into the collapse of Holy City Church, Brother Ronnies Ministries, in Bwerenga, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, have raised serious concerns about the building’s design, construction quality and regulatory compliance. 🔴 1. How the building collapsed The structure reportedly leaned and tipped over before the entire building came down. The incident left one person dead and 25 others injured. 🏗️ 2. What was being constructed? The collapsed structure was a four-level extension comprising a ground floor and three upper floors, attached to the existing church hall. It was classified as a Class A building, requiring the highest level of approval and professional oversight under the applicable building regulations. 🧱 3. Construction materials and structural design The new extension was built using reinforced concrete, while the existing church hall had a steel-frame structure. The connection between the two structures is among the aspects that may warrant further technical examination. ⚠️ 4. Possible structural design concerns Some concrete beams reportedly measured up to 60 cm × 60 cm, with certain spans exceeding six metres without intermediate support. These observations raise questions about the structural design and adequacy of the support system, although a definitive conclusion requires a detailed engineering investigation. 🔩 5. Concerns over reinforcement Preliminary observations indicated that steel reinforcement bars in the concrete floors varied in size and spacing. If confirmed to be inconsistent with the approved structural design, such deficiencies could compromise the strength and stability of the floors. 📑 6. Building approval and documentation No building permit or approved drawings were reportedly found at the site, raising concerns about regulatory compliance and whether the required approvals and inspections had been obtained. 👷 7. Workmanship and professional supervision Irregularities were reportedly observed in the columns, beams and floor structures. These findings could indicate deficiencies in workmanship and inadequate professional supervision, subject to verification by the investigating authorities. 🚧 8. Occupational safety concerns The preliminary assessment also reported an apparent absence of adequate site safety measures, raising further questions about construction-site safety management. 🔍 THE BIG QUESTION: HOW DID SUCH A STRUCTURE REACH THE FINAL FINISHING STAGE BEFORE COLLAPSING? The reported findings highlight the importance of approved building plans, sound structural design, quality construction materials, competent supervision and strict enforcement of building regulations. A comprehensive technical investigation will be essential to establish the exact cause of the collapse and determine whether design deficiencies, construction practices, inadequate supervision or a combination of factors contributed to the tragedy. @NBRBug @KCCAUG #BuildingSafety 🇺🇬

🚧 MINISTER HALTS SH386 BILLION ROAD PAYMENTS AS ENERGOPROJEKT CONTRACT IS TERMINATED The Minister of State for Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, has raised concerns over disputed road construction claims, questioning their impact on value for money in Uganda’s road infrastructure projects. Byamukama cited an example where a road initially valued at Shs 205 billion reportedly attracts additional claims worth Shs 300 billion, pushing the total cost to Shs 500 billion. “This is not value for money,” the minister said, explaining that the Government has withheld payments for disputed claims dating back to 2010. He also stated that previous ministers who held the works portfolio since 2010 had rejected Energoprojekt’s claims, which he described as fake. The dispute raises important questions about contract management, accountability and the protection of public funds in Uganda’s infrastructure development. #VisionUpdates

🛣️ New GKMA Project Sites Inspected as Ongoing Works Register Progress🚧 Contractors and consultants bidding for new infrastructure projects under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) programme have inspected the proposed project sites ahead of the procurement process, as ongoing road and market works continue to progress. The mandatory site inspection was conducted on 20th October 2026, following the advertisement of the projects on 8th October and a pre-bid meeting held on 18th October. Civil Engineer Wakiso Nashir Sseguya said the exercise was intended to help bidders understand the scope of works and assess the actual conditions at the proposed sites before submitting their bids. The inspection covered three projects: the 6.9-kilometre Jolejjo–Kiwanuka–Wakiso Road, serving Wakiso Town Council and Wakiso Sub-county; the 3.4-kilometre Lutete–Buwate Road, which will benefit residents of Kasangati Town Council and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA); and the 3.4-kilometre Jaraja Drainage Channel, which will be improved to address persistent flooding. Sseguya urged bidders to base their quotations on the conditions observed during the site visits rather than submitting estimates without assessing the proposed works. Ongoing GKMA Projects Show Progress Providing an update on ongoing works, Sseguya reported that seven projects—comprising five roads and two markets—are at different stages of implementation. The 12.17-kilometre Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road has achieved more than 70 per cent physical progress, while the 6.5-kilometre Kitemu–Kisozi–Naggalabi Spur has surpassed 80 per cent. The 6.5-kilometre Kayunga–Senge–Kawanda Road is at 4 per cent progress.
