Not much Nine/Murdoch coverage of new @Greens leader @DavidShoebridge’s cost of living (tax relief) ideas announced in his @PressClubAust speech 👇yesterday. Why’s that? Shoebridge wants to raise the tax free threshold to $26,000 as mortgagees prepare to be gouged again by Australia’s obscenely profitable banks as @RBAInfo cruelly pulls the % lever on Cup day.
YESTERDAY: Senator David Shoebridge, Leader of the Australian Greens and Senator for New South Wales, Addressed the National press club for the “Greens leader Address to the National Press Club”.
Watch the replay on ABC iview or on the National Press Club of Australia YouTube channel.

Pauline Hanson incoherently demands her claim that 94% of multicultural grants went to Labor seats be validated—then completely self-destructs when asked for a source.
Watt: “I’m not sure where those figures came from. Have you calculated that yourself?” 🤣 Trainwreck.

A vaccine that prevents cancer!
Cool
The vaccine for melanoma, described by experts as a “game-changer” cuts the risk of patients dying or cancer returning by 42 per cent, trials have found.
Intismeran, produced by Moderna, is custom-built for patients who have had a melanoma removed, using a sample of the growth. Its DNA is sequenced with AI to create the vaccine ⤵️

Department of Finance extended its temporary pause on new KPMG contracts to February 2027. This isn't dealing with the issue. When will Labor show some backbone & call these marauding cowboys to account? When will Labor acknowledge the evidence & ban KPMG?

A lil bit of political mischief at Sydney Uni this weekend! An absurdly delightful treat to join @cathywilcox1 and Safdar Ahmed for a workshop on comics, political cartoons and civil liberties at Honi Soit’s Student Journalism Conference. Huge thanks to @honi_soit and the lovely Sophie Wishart (also pictured!) for having me 🩵

ALT A close-up selfie of me (James), Cathy Wilcox (centre) and Sophie Wishart (right) smiling together at the University of Sydney’s Student Journalism Conference. I’m wearing a light blue striped shirt, Cathy wears black-framed glasses and a burgundy top, and Sophie wears a black polka-dot blouse with a red conference lanyard.

The Prime Minister thinks HECS debts are a joke. Easy to say when you don't have one.
He should give up the comedy and concentrate on making our HECS system more fair, starting with getting rid of the horribly flawed Job-ready Graduates scheme, which doubled the cost of arts and law degrees.

Always worthwhile to meet @APAN4Palestine. But alarming to hear from outgoing UN Special Rapporteur for Food who described the deliberate campaign by Israel to withhold adequate food supplies to Palestinians. Genocide by other means.

When private healthcare providers are struggling and consumers face soaring costs and service gaps, it signals a system that needs reimagining. Aus should establish a Private Health System Authority to oversee the private health sector so it delivers better for Australians#auspol

The government's planned cuts to private health rebates for over 65s would hit low-income pensioners hardest. They target older Australians who've made payments for decades to secure the certainty of private health cover in retirement.
The government has been anything but transparent about the impact of these changes. It has claimed 44,000 older Australians will drop their cover - but the Health Department's own figures say it's 78,000. Not to mention the government hiding the fact that half the savings will come from pensioners, while refusing to release modelling on how much these changes will cost the states.
This week I hope the Greens, the Coalition and the Senate crossbench will come together to block this bill, or at the very least accept my amendment to protect pensioners by giving them a carve-out from the cuts.
