Gōng fu (功夫): "skill developed over time through effort". A personal aspiration, not a claim. Analysis Fu is that but in business analysis.
Don't say "Orange" when you specifically mean "Clementine", "Satsuma" or "Tangerine".
Don't say "Clementine", "Satsuma" or "Tangerine" when you just mean "Orange" for all.
Define business terms before you proceed.
Establish a common vocabulary.

In a matter of days or a week or two we are able to ask insightful, probing, and highly fruitful questions. It makes us sound quite knowledgeable.

If we are ever in a meeting or conference call and I’m saying something that is demonstrably wrong, feel free to interrupt me so I don’t waste my time and yours.
Two caveats:
1. Don’t interrupt me to give me your opinion. Give me facts.
2. Be right.

Process models too big? Cover lots and lots of pages? Too many business rules embedded. Simplify, sharpen and innovate by externalizing those rules.

Watching business analysts trying to describe a complex business process when they’ve never even heard of BPMN, never mind have any expertise in it.*
*That was me once upon a time.

I am the business ontology champion on every project. Some clients don't want to know because they think the only measure of success is software in production. By the time they realise the software does not match the business reality, those stakeholders have moved on.

I’m participating in an audit of the project I’m on and the auditor asked me what my role was.
I told him it was the wrong question, which puzzled him.
Instead, I listed all the activities I perform for my client and then said: “Put whatever label you need to on that.”
