Study in @CIDJournal (bit.ly/4ePuNKo) by @HopkinsMedicine @JHMed_ID finds booster doses of #BivalentVaccines given every 3-6 months helps maintain a person’s ability to neutralize multiple #SARSCoV2 strains, incl. XBB.1.5 (bit.ly/3VMMJN5). @AndrewKaraba @HIV_TID

I’ve seen no convincing evidence that SARS-CoV-2 infects T cells or depletes dendritic cells, particularly in vaccinated people. If someone has some evidence I’d be interested in seeing it.
Guys, let me make it very clear The average adult gets flu once every 5 years Before Omicron, covid was estimated to infect every 16 months Covid dysregulates far more than flu, it infects T cells and depletes dendritic cells What do you think the cumulative effect will be?

Had a great time @ASNKidney #kidneyweek! Was lucky to participate in a great session on COVID vaccines in SOT with @maricar_malinis @HumarAtul @DrDianneMcKay @mzmolnar and Paolo Cravedi. Lots to learn still about how we can protect our patients best.

@KidneydrChirag was also gracious and let me crash the @hopkinsneph gathering where it was great to catch up with friends and colleagues from @OslerResidency @StevenMenez @tessa_novick among others. Such a great group of smart and kind people.

Great talk by @michyong2 on CMV immunity monitoring, but I wonder why these assays don't work better for all patients? My guess is CMV immunity/control is more complicated than we'd like. Abs? Antigens other than pp65/IE1? Innate immunity? differences in CMV strains? @IDWeek2022
Great first talk on Maribavir for R/R CMV by @KottonNelson. So glad to have this as an option for our patients with this really frustrating virus. 🔑don't forget to use HSV/VZV prophy, watch for DDIs, can't use w/ GCV. @IDWeek2022 @maricar_malinis @PergamIC

Great session on antifungals #IDWeek2022. Did not know aspergillosis survival remains ~70% no matter what drug we study. There is work to do. @maricar_malinis @ShohamTxID @kierenamarr

Dear COVID researchers, while we can’t seem to come to a consensus on what to call the ancestral strain (vaccine, WA-1, Wu-1, etc). Can we at least agree that it is NOT “wild-type?” All the circulating variants are wild-type. #virology #IDTwitter @soupvector @HIV_TID

These were phenomenal presentations and really ground breaking work. PSP @OslerResidency truly preparing amazing physician scientists. Having worked with these 3 I can tell you they are all great clinicians and clearly top-notch scientists too.
Amazing work coming from our incredible physician scientist @HopkinsGIHep fellows, @KristiCBriggs and Zack Foda, on IBD and colon cancer/HCC. Great job presenting @OslerResidency Grand Rounds this morning! #GITwitter #LiverTwitter #MedEd
