But God bless a bed ridden non earning husband should pay the maintenance to an able bodied wife.
Common people: Why do husband pay maintenance to wife? Especially without any corresponding duty? If I owe her a duty she must owe me a duty in return, because any agreement without consideration is void.
Court: Its because marriage is not a contract but a sacrament.
Religion: Well, in that case, she must come on "Doli" and leave on "Arthi" only. Because religiously she owes 7 promises in exchange of a man's 7 promises.
Court: That's patriarchal mindset.
Patriarchy: Now where did I come in this all? Can you keep it between you two?

Its a shame that they pick and choose the verses.
Manusmriti also says this
