💢 The Saudis could decide to make a deal with the Houthis and withdraw from Yemen. 💢 In this scenario, the Houthis, southern separatists, and other local actors would be left to determine the balance of power within Yemen. 💢 Without the excuse of a foreign aggressor, the Houthis would have no one to blame for their inability to provide for the Yemeni people. 💢 But if foreign powers continue to pour fuel onto Yemen’s conflict, it will continue to rage. Yemen today stands at its most critical juncture since the 2022 truce, as internal and regional shifts threaten to pull the country back into full-scale war. Houthi attacks on shipping and cross-border strikes with Saudi Arabia, alongside renewed mobilization on domestic frontlines, point to a possible slide back into war. This comes as the regional order around Yemen is redrawn due in part to the US-Israel war on Iran and its impact on regional geopolitics and the security landscape, as well as the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey, marking a wider move by countries in the region to broaden their security options.  The prospects for a lasting Yemeni peace process hang in the balance. Arab Center Washington DC and Sana’a Center are convening a panel of experts to examine how these shifting alignments are reshaping the strategic environment around Yemen, how the US-Israel war on Iran is impacting domestic and regional dynamics, and how Yemen in turn is shaping the calculations of Gulf and international actors. Panelists will discuss the internal military and security shifts, Houthi capabilities and strategy, the evolving new regional architecture and its impacts on Yemen, US policy approaches to the Houthis and Yemen, the viability of UN mediation efforts, and the prospects for a political process to end the war. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Arabic and English @ArabCenterDC arabcenterdc.org/event/back-…

📝 This #Situation_Assessment examines the role of the so-called “Board of Peace” in #Gaza as an international framework for managing the post-ceasefire phase. It shows how the Board has tied reconstruction, humanitarian aid, and civilian administration to political and security arrangements aligned with Israel’s vision, foremost among them the disarmament of the Palestinian resistance. The assessment also highlights Israel’s continued ceasefire violations, expanding military control, obstruction of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, and the unprecedented humanitarian and urban devastation caused by the genocidal war on the Strip. 🔗 Read the full Situation Assessment: acr.ps/hBxNM2w

How will the Iran war impact Gulf SWFs? I argue they’ll financially cushion Gulf states from the impact of the war but are unlikely to change its course. What is more at risk is the national development model they’ve helped underwrite. @ArabCenterDC arabcenterdc.org/resource/pr…

At the Arab Center conference in Washington, John Mearsheimer starts his address by pointing out that when he and Walt published *The Israel Lobby* in 2007, many thought they exaggerated. "In reality, we only addressed the tip of the iceberg," he says.
