One of our guides pointed out that he looked remarkably like this 1500 year old wall painting not only because the clothing of a monk has not changed in this time but because they both came from the same village and the families have hardly changed in all this time.

So let's write in about the Places of Worship Renewal Fund 1-off Grants wh replaced the simpler, fairer, better & more impactful Listed Places of Worship Grant for VAT. Church Qs are on Thursday: MPs must understand that a small number of big grants is not as helpful as 0% VAT.
“Now remember, this is just a bit of fun…”

Today is 'Old Michaelmas', the date on which many of that festival's customs were celebrated after Britain adopted the Gregorian calendar. Here's a thread on Old Michaelmas, a lovely quirk of the folklore year, and the places where its traditions are still going strong today...
10 October is 'Old Michaelmas Day' - Michaelmas counting by the Julian calendar. After the 1752 calendar reform, many Michaelmas traditions were kept on this date. For instance, it was said you shouldn't pick blackberries after Old Michaelmas, because the devil spits on them...

Yesterday, the Chaplain celebrated a Sung Mass of Thanksgiving on the anniversary of the dedication of the first Pusey House in 1884. On this day, October 10, 1914, the current Chapel was dedicated to the glory of God, the edification of his name and the sanctification of souls. – at Oxford, England
