It’s remarkable how British TV in the 90s produced two shows as good as Sharpe and Hornblower.

Almost exactly two years ago, Jelly called for the abolition of the monstrosity that is paper straws. Clearly the world’s scientific and political elites have listened. #JellyBeme #JellyHoshiumi #FuckThemTurtles

I guarantee you that it isn’t the case that nothing is being done. Podcasters are simply not being included in the discussions. Which is very, very wise and pisses them off to no end.
We discovered the Democrats are planning to use contested elections to trigger a color revolution and no one really seems to care Already fell out of the news coverage, no charges, no action taken Just a coup being planned with zero response

Was Leslie Charteris a better writer than Ian Fleming? Quite possibly. He was certainly more of a prose stylist, and his innate good humor shines through in everything. Fleming comes out ahead, though, with his sense of urgency and narrative thrust. Two masters, different styles.

The American ideal was once the man who could play football, quote Shakespeare, understand Newton, appreciate architecture, debate Aristotle, and sing in church. Now we demand that 12-year-olds specialize in one sport and spend their adolescence building college résumés. We used to cultivate men. Now we manufacture applicants.

According to a little anecdote from director Gore Verbinsky, director of the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films Geoffrey Rush (better known as Captain Hector Barbossa) was aware of the fact that, in the Western world, viewers habitually follow a film by looking at the screen from left to right, just like books. In the scenes he always tried to stand on the left side of each frame to keep the audience's attention on his performance. His attempts increased in intensity during the scenes he shared with Keira Knightley and the monkey. The reason? According to the director, the answer was: "I'm sharing the frame with a beautiful actress and a very nice monkey... who would ever look at me?"

No, you stupid bastards, that doesn’t mean it’s SHORT. It means it’s CLEAR. You can understand it because the language isn’t overly complex, it isn’t too involved, and it is successful at depicting the idea. Some ideas take more words, but the language should always be clear.

Planning a week off of writing to brainstorm and refresh. So, reading John the Balladeer and Apothecary Diaries. But also looking for adventure movies for inspiration on daring daylight escapes. Have two in mind, looking for suggestions on a few more.

A lot of male authors ask me for guidance. My first piece of career advice: Don't waste time with oldpub. Legacy publishers have said men are not their sort. So take them at their word, save yourself the frustration, and start earning by serving the readers they don't want.
If it’s all due to different gender choices when women lack representation, mentorship, or sympathetic leadership in a field than the same is true for men. Men by and large don’t read. Women dwarf them in this category. So why should men largely be determining what gets published?
