THE BOATS ARE BACK
Around 150 illegal migrants have crossed the Channel or are crossing today, the first small boats to reach Britain in more than three weeks.
Three weeks of quiet, and the moment the smugglers can launch again, Border Force is straight back to ferrying them into port.
Labour promised to smash the gangs. Instead the crossings carry on, the hotels stay full and the British taxpayer picks up the bill.
Secure the border. Detain and deport every illegal arrival.

WHY ARE THE BOATS STILL COMING?
Douglas Murray asks why thousands are still crossing the Channel in small boats and being put up in taxpayer-funded hotels.
Australia and Japan control who comes in. Britain's government can't, or won't.

BURIED ON PAGE 111
While ministers talked up the Budget, they tucked £150 million for asylum accommodation sites into page 111 and hoped nobody would read that far.
Former immigration minister Kevin Foster is right: this is the part taxpayers should be looking at. The government promised to end the asylum housing bill, not quietly fund more of it. Stop the boats first, then there's nothing to house.

NO HANDS UP FOR FREE MOVEMENT
At Prime Minister's Questions today, Kemi Badenoch asked Labour MPs to raise their hands if they want free movement with the EU back.
Not one hand went up on the benches behind Andy Burnham.
Yet the Prime Minister is still pushing a "debate" on free movement ahead of next month's UK-EU summit. His own MPs won't defend it in the chamber, and the British people already rejected it at the ballot box.
Migration needs to come down, not be thrown wide open again. Britain must decide who comes here.

PM'S HEART ISN'T IN IT
Andy Burnham has now sided with the Home Secretary on tougher rules for permanent settlement, The Times's Patrick Maguire says.
But the Cabinet is still split over whether those rules can apply to people who came on health and care visas after 2021, with Angela Rayner and Miatta Fahnbulleh resisting.
And as Maguire points out, Burnham has said he would rather Britain were back in the EU.
You will not get migration down with a Prime Minister whose instinct is free movement and a Cabinet fighting itself. Settlement must be earned, and the rules must cover everyone who arrived in the post-2021 surge, not just future arrivals.

PREVENT IS OVERWHELMED
A record 6,085 children were referred to Prevent last year, up from 2,129 in 2020, according to police chiefs' figures obtained by the Conservatives.
The counter-extremism scheme is being turned into a catch-all for every troubled teenager with a fascination for violence. Meanwhile Islamist extremism, still the biggest share of the terror threat facing this country, risks getting lost in the noise.
The Shawcross review warned back in 2023 that Prevent had taken its eye off Islamism. Three years on, ministers still have not got a grip.
Our children deserve a system that names the real threat and deals with it.

COUNCIL DROPS SANCTUARY LABEL
Wandsworth Council has voted to stop being a borough of sanctuary. Around 160 councils, plus the whole of Wales, still carry it.
Border control belongs to Parliament, not activist campaigns. Every council should follow Wandsworth.

ASYLUM HOTEL CRIME FIGURES
New analysis of police data by GB News found 673 crime and antisocial behaviour reports at the map points right by three Bournemouth hotels used to house asylum seekers, between September 2023 and August 2026.
Violence and sexual offences were the largest category, with 259 reports.
Across the road from one hotel, reports of violent and sexual offences ran at almost three times the local average.
Yet when challenged over its other sites, the Home Office insists there is no evidence of rising crime.
Local people deserve the truth, not denials. Close the hotels.

FREE MOVEMENT BACK ON THE TABLE
Andy Burnham now wants an "evidence-based" debate on bringing back elements of EU free movement, with officials set to discuss it ahead of the UK-EU summit on 20 November.
This is the same man who warned in 2019 that free movement let big firms undercut wages in working-class towns.
Britain voted to take back control of its borders. Downing Street says there are no proposals yet. Then rule it out now, in writing.

SOFTER ON FOREIGN CRIMINALS
There are still 21,000 serious foreign criminals living in Britain.
Right now, a foreign criminal jailed for four years or more cannot use family or long-residence claims to dodge deportation. In the Commons, the Government was told it voted down amendments to keep that rule and extend it to terrorists, leaving its new Immigration and Asylum Bill softer than the current law.
The Minister's answer? A lecture about Churchill and a promise to "reform" the ECHR at some point.
The public want foreign offenders removed, not more legal loopholes. Deport them.
